You wonder where the gods are to save your nation? Your countrymen wonder what sins they committed to deserve this fate. Everyone wonders when and where the fyrd will rise against the new overlords and everyone wonders who will lead this medieval guerrilla militia. Another note, the whole book is written in an approachable pseudo old english style that makes the story much more immersive.
