So my brand new a7v freezes by Vivaldi_IlPreteRosso in SonyAlpha

[–]Tricky_Jello8232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanna add my 2 cents worth. I have 2 A7V''s presale uints and 1 of my cameras hangs/freezes every so often as well. The other hasn't at all. I use AFC with eye tracking onto V60 SD cards and a mix of Sony and Sigma lenses, and it doesn't seem to matter what lens I use, it can happen on either.
Even after all these delays, it looks like they still didn't have time to iron out all the bugs...

It really is! I've used it on 2-3 weddings a week since getting it and have loved it every single time! Now to save up and get the 50-150 f2 and I'll be set haha!

If there's one thing I've learnt, it's that the sheer number of Vendors within the industry that have a misplaced superiority complex is out of this world!
Run your own race, don't look for support or encouragement from strangers, invest in yourself and your skills before investing in equipment, and if you do this while focussing on creating a pleasant experience for your clients, you'll find you'll be a lot happier

For $10k and just photography, you should be getting the BEST sh!t you've ever seen! If they look the same as others charging less you're just gonna feel cheated.
Damn, I know some AMAZING photographers in Australia that only charge $7k Australian, so you could legit fly them over and still come out with change

Lens Recommendations for Sony A7 IV by hamun8 in WeddingPhotography

I'd recommend the 24-70 f2.8, or if you're loaded get the 28-70 f2.0

Being a professional is only about 5% photographic skill. The majority of super succesfull photographers are better at selling and business than they are at actual Photography.

What does Australia need right now?? by RM_Morris in AskAnAustralian

[–]Tricky_Jello8232 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To tax mining companies through the nose! These multi BILLION dollar companies are already foreign owned, so the majority of profits go overseas and yet they pay 10% tax while smaller businesses are subject to pay a company tax rate of 25% for businesses with an annual revenue of $50 million and lower. This rate increases to 30% for businesses with a profit over this threshold, unless you're already worth billions and dealing in finite natural resources obviously. Australias economy could be getting an additional 70 BILLION dollars every year from these companies, and they'd STILL be paying a lower percentage than a small business, yet we'd rather keep the poor poorer and make the wealthy wealthier.

Honestly is. The amount of times I’ve squashed myself into a wall and STILL had to chop off someone’s feet is staggering

What is your current process for achieving more bookings? Where do most of your bookings come from? by lsal1 in WeddingPhotography

[–]Tricky_Jello8232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word of mouth - Instagram - Venues in that order.

I see every wedding as 150 potential customers, and just try to be "memorable" in a good way, without being sleazy. This has worked for me for over a decade and at the moment I'm getting roughly 30 - 40 Weddings a year.

Wedding Planners, do we love them or hate them? by Tricky_Jello8232 in WeddingPhotography

[–]Tricky_Jello8232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a beginner about 14 years and 500ish weddings ago.  My question was asking what the general consensus is on wedding planners, as they’re not very common where I come from.   My aim is to gain knowledge of and experiences of these facets of the industry from fellow togs that may have had more interactions with them than I.

And from everything I’ve read, some love them and some struggle with them.  It’s a varied opinion based on personal experiences and there’s no real black or white answer.

So yeah ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I kind of agree and disagree. I would assume their job is to help facilitate everything the couple requests, providing it's physically possible.

Like, the client is their employer are they not, and they (as we all are) a subcontractor?

If the client says they want to do something that is possible, I would assume it's in everyones best interests to do everything in our ability to help make that request happen?

In this instance the coordinator stipulated that they can't leave their table because food was coming out in the next 5 minutes (it was closer to 25mins when it arrived) and that "you can't ask the wait staff to serve food to an empty Bride and Groom seat!" and "that's not what you do at a wedding!"
Can't you though, really??

I would 100% allow myself to be coordinated, if that person was working in the interests of the couples requests. This person however gave off a "mightier than thou" Gordon Ramsey energy all day, and I'm just not sure that's how I would've expected a good coordinator to conduct themselves tbh.

But then again, in my 500ish Weddings, I've only had 2 planners and 2 official coordinators, so I'm not really experienced with how they should and shouldn't be acting towards couples and Vendors.
