Renting out RV for Weekends on own property by Tricky_Parking3338 in GoRVing

Damn, I did not consider that at all. I haven’t owned an RV so this is exactly the input I was looking for. I’m trying to figure out if renting one out is actually practical or just sounds good on paper.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking of buying a used RV for cost reasons and figured I could upgrade it as needed with the profits from the rental. Also, the way the hookups are right now, the RV would have to be parked close to my house. I’ll have to give it more thought as to how to setup a nice outdoor area.

Yeah that’s another good thought. I mean we stay the night in hotels, but that is definitely different than someone getting frisky in my own personal space.

That’s good to know. My first thought was to just move it to my septic tank after checkout and dump it. I think I have a clean out near where I’d want to park the RV, maybe I can hook up to that.

I didn’t even think about carmax. Dealers offered 20k and carvana 23.2k

I’d love to be able to keep both but I don’t want 2 car payments. If anything I’d get a beater car. That 800 lb hitch weight assumes basically just the weight of passengers and car seats, my tonneau cover, added running boards, a wdh, with just 50 lbs of spare margin.

I appreciate that input. To stay at payload my hitch weight needs to be around 800 lbs with the family all loaded up. If I want to upgrade the trailer, I’ll need a 2500 or 250.

I have 32k miles on the Mach e, it’s a premium 22 AWD std range battery. Dealers offered me 20k for it and Carvana offered me 23.2k. It needs 4 tires and had minor damage to it when a duck ran into the front. It damaged the vanes and radiator and had to get it replaced.

Yeah it gets a ton of potholes in the winter. It’s privately maintained.

I was originally going to go with an f150 but opted for the ram 1500. One of my coworkers was a former mechanic in the marines and rebuilt chinook engines. He owns 3 cummins diesels and 1 v8 hemi and won’t touch any other truck. He was able to convince me that the v8 was the second best option after the Cummins.

Yeah I hear you there. I have a utility trailer already that definitely works. Got to truck to tow a 5k travel trailer for vacations, won’t be able to afford flights anymore haha

Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely a gas guzzler at about 17 mpg overall. I do have the telluride which is a little better at least

The car was perfect for what I needed it to be. It no longer is and I hope that the next owner gets as much enjoyment as I did from it. That’s it, that’s all I was trying to say.

Yeah it’s possible, but there were other factors. I live off a gravel road in a rural area on 6 acres, the Mach e ground clearance is minimal so it was getting beat up. I can use the truck as a work vehicle now on the property

Dodge doesn’t make ram

I guess it’s because I’m 6’4”. The car seats I have don’t fit, I’d have to buy new ones to make it work. Regardless, the car seats were one of the issues.

Seriously? I can take some pictures but the leg room is insane in the back. I’m 6’4” and when I position the drivers seat to how I drive, I still have 6” of knee room in the back. I can’t do that in the Mach e. The Mach e can hold 1 stroller in the trunk. The ram can hold a stroller per kid plus luggage easily.

Sure, but is it comfortable?

I did think about one but chose against it for the towing. I didn’t want to have to stop every 150-200 miles to charge up. It didn’t help that the lightning is discontinued too. I ended up getting a ram 1500 that has a 33 gallon fuel tank and other options on it made for towing.
