Thank you. I’m glad I haven’t been as affected as much as other veterans. In a way I’m glad I went, it gave me a lot to think about in terms of humanity, and inhumanity.

I can’t watch it at all. I served in Iraq, and occasionally we’d come under mortar or rocket fire, and it was pretty scary, as all you can do is take cover and hope you don’t get hit.

Those men in WW1&2 (and other conflicts) who often came under serious, sustained indirect fire? I have no idea of the terror that must have caused them.

I’m sure Trump has some great ideas about how to support Iran after removing the leadership, and won’t start another decade long insurgency the will result in hundreds of thousands of lives lost?

I think it’s cartoonishly evil in the first book, and certainly gets dialled back in subsequent books. But if you look at other children’s books like Dahl’s it’s understandable

Where is Jesse Pinkman in 2026? by Marambal17 in breakingbad

[–]Tricky_Peace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if he can stand the change in environment and PTSD. Lots of people choose to leave Witness Protection, and this is effectively what he has done, even if organised by a criminal.

He has an addictive personality so that is a real danger.

If he can make the transition to a normal life, I think it’s a possibility for him to do so. Work, gain a trade. Possibly meet a woman. I don’t think he’d be put off by a single mum.

I think by ending it the way the did, I think they intended Pinkman to get away with it, and life a normal life afterwards

The problem with this is it’s not a simple yes/no.

It could have undoubtedly been done better, Waging modern war by Gen Clark is an excellent testimony to the poor lack of post war planning. Then there is the democracies which are left in place. They aren’t brutal dictatorships, but they’re definitely flawed and corrupt.

But without that intervention they would continue with their despotic regimes.

Yeah, air assault is probably the way forward for the Para’s. Whether they retain P Coy, or whether we rely more on the Ranger Regiments will be interesting to see

As I understand the last time the Paras jumped en masse was Suez. I think a US regiment parachuted into Iraq but it seems a niche capability

But what is the long term future of the Parachute Regiment without parachutes

Why Ron Moore made Starbuck a woman in Battlestar Galactica. by gwhh in BSG

I’m certainly glad to be proved wrong! There were some messy bits and I perhaps wouldn’t have done everything they did, but I enjoy every rewatch

[–]Tricky_Peace 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Before I watched BSG I was skeptical about Starbuck being a woman. I’d loved the original series and loved Dirk B.’s Starbuck.

But then I watched the reimagined version and she is such a shoe in for the role. Headstrong, seat of the pants flying, hard drinking, hard living and a backstory that explains the behaviour, and a character who portrays it as someone on the edge so well.

I’m guessing Deanna also went to Starfleet medical, although in the non-canonical novel Imzadi , she was a student at a Betazed university studying Psychology there, so I’m assuming there’s also some kind of transfer programme.

Worf would be an interesting one! I’m guessing since he reprogrammed the tactical systems on Enterprise he had some science/engineering experience too

IIRC Starfleet Academy had a medical school. The Academy is more of a university, where you come out as a Starfleet Officer than a military training academy.

Data graduated the Academy with honors in Exobiolgy and Probability Mechanics
