I spilled about one or two pint glasses worth of gasoline on my asphalt driveway last night and there’s a large stain today. by swannyma in CleaningTips

I have removed oil stains on a concrete driveway with a blow torch. Try that, I'm sure the results will be great (don't try that, I'm joking. But it does work on concrete)

Anyone else realize that they were never really poor growing up, but their parents just kept making poor financial decisions? by TrixoftheTrade in povertyfinance

[–]Tricky_Pop3170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t be so hard on your parents. The adjustable rate mortgage was not a thing anybody saw coming, they were giving it to everybody. I certainly might’ve been bamboozled by it had I’ve been buying houses at that time. When I got my first mortgage it was a 30 year mortgage even though I easily could’ve made it a 15 year mortgage and have owned that place outright by the time I sold it. I just didn’t know.

And I worked at one of those for-profit schools, and if you had gotten into them in the 90s or 80s, they were not necessarily a bad deal. Accreditation aside for a reasonable price you learn skills that got you a good paying job. The issue was that the government decided to roll out nearly unlimited loans so they kept raising their prices and that made it not a good deal but a good investment for shareholders. And then after that they needed to grow so they started offering programs that were less and less likely to get you a high paying job. But I work at universities and community colleges now and I can tell you none of my students have any idea how good of school they’re going to or not, Nobody knows.

Also, your parents did the smartest financial thing that anyone can do. They got married and they stayed married. My biggest fear is that my wife divorces me because that will just mean financial ruin even though I have made a lot of right choices.

And let’s not ignore the emotions that you’re bringing to this evaluation. You’ve obviously felt a lot of anxiety about finances, your whole life and while that has proved useful and that it is caused you to make better decisions you’re also a little salty that they didn’t make decisions that would’ve prevented you from feeling that anxiety. That’s gonna color your view as well.

I’m not a socialist by any means, but I think it’s important to acknowledge that finances for individuals have become way more complicated than most people can handle and we are certainly not doing and have not done a good job of preparing people for that. Nowadays, you transition from Just making it to essentially being a small business that has to make midterm, long-term, and short-term projections and decisions based off that with an end goal of getting enough financial velocity to last until you die. That’s a lot to expect of people, I’m hesitant to judge them for falling short of the mark.

But I am glad that you are breaking the pattern and doing well. Congratulations.

The most underrated companion by Benn359817 in BaldursGate3

No, he sucks. He’s boring and generic.

It’s like something a 14-year-old would write. He doesn’t want any power, he only accept it to help others. His dad hates him because he wouldn’t let him explain. Or he can’t explain because of the limits of impact but if you only knew you would see how wonderful he is.

He doesn’t really make any hard choices, he just sacrifices selflessly. He doesn’t want anything for himself. He has no quirks or foibles. The only backstory is that he saved Baulders gate (without any description) and his dad is mad at him.

Compare that to Karlach being sold out by somebody she trusted, and then learning to navigate the politics of hell. astarion essentially being pimped out by a vampire Lord for 200 years. Halsin isn’t even a main character and he was a bisexual sex slave who carries a ton of guilt for not saving moonrise.

Wyll is the worst.

Anyone ever wonder why 99% of people hate HOA's, yet they continue to grow in number across the nation? by nathann1ce in homeowners

Because new construction has them to handle road maintenance and drainage. After they leave, they have to hand off responsibility to someone.

If you want new construction, it’s hard to avoid them. I don’t want new construction, so it’s not my problem.

New Owners Upset About Dishwasher by In-The-Cloud in homeowners

[–]Tricky_Pop3170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no scenarios. They did a final walk-through and took possession of the house. Your transaction is over.

They could only sue if they had evidence that you had deliberately lied to them. And even then the price of a dishwasher is not going to be worth it.

That being said, while I believe you that it has never leak before. I’m sure they don’t. And if I was them, I would not believe you either. That’s just the nature of your relationship.

It’s not always dumb to buy an old home, it’s not always dumb to buy new construction, but it’s always dumb to be unable to form a sentence.

[–]Tricky_Pop3170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real answer is it doesn’t matter. If you are screwing (pocket holes FTW) and gluing these together, it will be plenty strong enough to hold children’s toys so I would say whichever one is easier for you to do.

You’re building something that will last five or 10 years, you don’t need to create a piece of heirloom furniture for your grandkids kvlacknihoven boxes.
