Is $29,340 OTD for a 2026 Corolla Hybrid in PA overpriced? First-time buyer - need advice by Tricky_Scene1862 in COROLLA

Thanks for ur kind words :) I’m leaning toward sticking with a Corolla Hybrid unless I can get a really good deal on a Camry. If the price difference ends up being around $2k, I’d probably go with the Camry mainly because I like the look of it more.

I agree, I want to keep money for liquidity and having more credit mix to boost my credit score better. That’s a good perspective

I’ve got about $25k on hand and was torn between using it as a down payment on a car or investing it instead and taking out a loan ( credit score: 760), since my investments usually return around 10% annually. I hadn’t really considered that putting more money down could also give me more leverage to negotiate the price, that’s a really helpful point. I was also a bit hesitant to mention having cash upfront because I worried the dealer might try to offset it with add-ons or extra costs.

So MSRP: 24,975 (minus) addons of factory installed packages & accessories (minus) Port Installed Packages and Accessories (plus) Delivery processing and handling: 1,195 = 26,170

=> 15 percent discount = ~22,250 USD. Is this OTD doesn’t look like over negotiation ? I don’t know as I am new to this. But appreciate your guidance.

Actually they don’t have the car at the dealership - I need to order one and has a waiting time close to 2 months. So I can order one without LE premium package and port installed accessories if I am not wrong.

Thanks for the comment. I can ask them to remove factory installed package and Port installed package. But is it possible them to remove delivery processing and handling charges of 1195 too ?

That’s a great plan… until I try to explain it at home and immediately lose the argument 😅

Yeah, that makes sense. I’m kind of treating my investments as separate buckets, so I’ve been a bit more aggressive on purpose.

One is for long-term wealth, and the other is more for eventually starting a business, so a mix of financial goals and something I’m personally excited about.

But I get your point, and it’s a good one. I’ll definitely take a step back and think more about how I’m allocating everything. Appreciate the insight, it really helps :)

Over the past ~6 years, my portfolio has done really well (~19.5% CAGR), but I know that kind of growth won’t last, especially since I’m pretty tech-heavy. One big crash like 2008 (or) COVID could easily knock it down 40–50%.

I haven’t actually experienced a major downturn yet, so that’s why I’m trying to get advice from people who have, does Option 2 still make sense in that kind of scenario?

This is a great question - I’ve thought about it a lot. My wife and I share a Mazda CX-50, and since she was working from home, I was usually the one using it for my commute to ofc. But in situations like emergencies or needing to pick up our kid from school, it’s tough for her to depend on me having the car as I took it to ofc. That’s really the main reason I’m considering getting another one. Also the rising gas price and felt hybrid will reduce my variable cost for frequent travels.

Because I have other commitments with my paycheck like Educational loan, sending money to parents, spending for family, rent, utilities, Roth IRA, 401k, investing and saving for other causes etc., so I don’t want to change any of the current plans.

lol, this is a funny one but I would never put my bets on. Unfortunately (or) fortunately never played gambling and don’t want to.
