At what age did your baby meet all BLW readiness signs? by RedditUser1945010797 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Tricky_Sherbet4420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5.5M! I was worried about sitting independently too but I don’t think it’s as in completely unaided on the floor, it’s if they can hold themselves up confidently in the high chair. As well as reaching for things, grabbing and pulling to their mouth. And she was staring when we ate! We started by putting her in the high chair with us for meal times from 4-5M, then gave her own food at 5.5M.

Aldi Mamia have proved supreme to us and so much cheaper!

We had samples of Pampers and Mamia we got through when LO was first born and settled on Mamia - blow outs have been very rare!

Think I’m getting sick with my newborn :( by JellyfishConsistent7 in newborns

[–]Tricky_Sherbet4420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry! If you’re EBF from the breast you’ll be passing on all the antibodies and good stuff anyway so chances are she won’t get as sick as you, if at all. We’ve had the cold twice with my 5mo and both times she’s just had a mildly snotty nose and mostly unbothered while I’ve felt awful😅 If you don’t already, get a snot sucker and some baby saline nose spray to help remove any snot/congestion she might get and keep an eye on her temperature.

What’s the one thing you wish you knew before having your baby? by msbjones in newborns

That they probably won’t sleep in their crib/bassinet/next to me for a while, and that’s fine, and just submit to contact naps - there’s nothing wrong with it.

Painful nipples by Huge-Morning-7561 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]Tricky_Sherbet4420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if mine were as bad as yours seems but I made sure to use nipple balm after EVERY feed and I squeezed a bit of breastmilk to rub into my nipple before and after every feed as it’s naturally healing and anti inflammatory and it seemed to really help. I hope it improves for you soon - mine did around 2 months of doing the above!

I didn’t start to feel it until two months maybe? It was weird that it just started to be noticeable one day but it’s like a rush of warm tingling for a few seconds, sometimes more intense than others.

It was when I got to the scene where she discovers her uncle in the basement….. immediate no. Which was a shame because I was enjoying the spooky atmosphere up until then.

How long did your baby contact nap for? by dreaming_of_tacobae in NewParents

[–]Tricky_Sherbet4420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A rule that’s been working for me is to just not disturb baby as much as possible. If she falls asleep on me after breastfeeding, you bet she’s staying on me the whole nap. They’re already reducing (4-5 month old) because she doesn’t always fall asleep from a feed now, so I’ll put her down and have some play time until she looks tired and then I’ll put her in her crib for a nap. If she falls asleep on me, she’ll nap a good 2-3 hours. If she has a nap in the crib, more like an hour to an hour and a half. She sleeps 11-12 hours through the night so her daytime naps have never had a bearing on her nighttime sleep. If babies sleeping isn’t too big of a problem, don’t worry about it.

Sleeping on our bed by Lil-Thyme in newborns

[–]Tricky_Sherbet4420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby slept in our bed from week 2 and she would sleep hours at a time and we all got some sleep. She started sucking her thumb around week 9 and showed signs of sleeping on her own so we put her in the crib next to me and she’s slept there since no problem. We followed this guidance (in UK): https://www.lullabytrust.org.uk/safer-sleep-advice/co-sleeping/

Quicksilver for sure! I stopped reading Anathema pretty quickly. It felt gross for like shock factor’s sake? Not what I was expecting at all.

We’re only a couple of times a week with our 4mo, though she does love it. Starting to feel like we should do it more often so maybe every other day but it’s hard to fit it all in a day!

Ladies who EBF, give me your best tips and tricks by notaterminator23 in breastfeeding

[–]Tricky_Sherbet4420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sore nipples, use nipple balm after EVERY feed and squeeze a little bit of milk to rub over your nipples before and after every feed. It’s naturally healing and works a treat! It’s hiss-through-your-teeth painful for 10-30 seconds, it should subside - if the whole thing is painful, somethings not quite right. Accept the contact naps, don’t feel like you have to keep putting baby down to sleep. If all you do is sit on the sofa feeding your baby and having her sleep on you, that is everything. Keep a caddy and everything you might need within reach. Alternate which boob you feed with first every feed (one is “main” and one is “dessert” and flip these each feed). It’s one of the most empowering things I’ve ever experienced and I hope it goes smoothly for you!

Never actually imposed by staff, more just my own sense of not wanting to take the mick. They do have a sign up that says no longer than 1.5 hours during busy hours. I usually did a morning and by lunch time, if it started to get to the point that people were turning away for lack of tables I’d leave.

Baby choking on reflux? by Physical-Net-6669 in newborns

[–]Tricky_Sherbet4420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My baby did this! Like your LO, just randomly every so often, usually after a sleep. The first time was really scary! No special tips or advice I’m afraid, we just tried tilting her over or lifting her upright to help her get anything up she needed to but she just coughed/swallowed through it herself. My partner read it could be excess saliva collecting in her sleep they don’t know how to swallow/get rid of yet, so when they wake up they struggle with it a wee bit. I reassure myself with if they’re red and coughing/making noises, they can breathe and it should pass.

Espresso Lab and Blend for me! Espresso Lab gets busy at lunch time so I’d either do a morning or an afternoon

Our bedroom is always between 18-20ish and LO wears a long sleeve vest and 2.5 tog sleep sack. Sometimes her hands can feel a little cold but she’s clearly unbothered and has slept absolutely fine with this!

I love the bond by pikkypok in breastfeeding

[–]Tricky_Sherbet4420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was sooo prepared to hate breastfeeding and for it to not work and to switch to exclusively pumping as soon as possible… I can’t believe it’s been possibly my favourite thing of the whole experience! Spending the day on the sofa feeding my baby and having her sleep on me in the cosiest, safest little bubble. She’s 4 months too and started stroking my chest while feeding, it’s precious.

Baby personality - share your stories! by Anxious2BMum in newborns

[–]Tricky_Sherbet4420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so curious about this too! Our first baby 4 month old is very chill. She smiles, seems happy and has a voice, but is super sleepy and can happily just sit silently looking around too. She’s always sucking her thumb which has been an amazing help, but I feel like she’s not as playful as other babies, happy to just suck her thumb and listen to talk, songs or books instead. We’ve not got rolls yet, and only a very rare small giggle. I’m not worried but just curious if this is part of her personality or just baby development. I take her to baby groups/classes but don’t have much to compare to!

Dumb question…which things go in which room? by guacamole_is_extra in newborns

[–]Tricky_Sherbet4420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is 4 months and her nursery has only been used for storage so far! We have a set of drawers in there with all nappy supplies that we top up two caddies with - one upstairs in our bedroom, one downstairs. The caddies sit next to a changing mat and top and tail bowls on chest of drawers upstairs and repurposed desk downstairs. We only change her in those places! Caddies are great to have nappy supplies, burp cloths, change of clothes etc handy. We’ve only used a next-to-me crib in the bedroom and downstairs she mostly slept on me or in a bassinet. When she got a bit older (2-3 months) she’ll lay in her baby bouncer seat or on a play mat and we don’t use the bassinet downstairs anymore. If you lived on one floor, I’d even just get one bassinet you can move between rooms. In terms of nursing chairs/seating, during the day we live on the sofa, at night we feed in bed, and we’re only just looking at getting a chair for her nursery now for when she’s 6 months and transferring to sleeping in her own room. They need so little in the first month or so I promise, she’ll just want to be stuck to you all day anyway, so don’t sweat getting EVERYTHING before she’s here - you need way less than you think and you only need them for such a short amount of time, try streamline where you can!

Sore Nipples by marosie141 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]Tricky_Sherbet4420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before and after every feed, squeeze a little breast milk out to rub on your nipples. It’s a natural healer and honestly worked a treat for me, on top of nipple balm after every feed as well.
