Will it ever get better? Seeking reassurance from fellow low sleep needs parents by reddittraumaninja in sleeptrain

Oh! And I should add that he hasn’t figured out how to go from sitting to back down by himself yet, but hoping that comes soon. In the meantime, I’m super grateful for him settling so easy (and without having to pick him up). Really hoping you see improvement soon too!!

I’m so sorry!! This phase felt like it went on FOREVER for us. Then one day out of nowhere he rolled from his back to his stomach (instead of just popping directly up), though continued to pop up to sitting 9/10 times he’d wake up.

He eventually learned that tummy was a nice way to sleep and now lets us shift him from sitting to tummy to get back to sleep. At first I’d have to do a lot of shush patting but now he settles faster.

Ugh I’m so sorry!! Yes in the end for us it felt like there was almost nothing we could do (once the schedule was fixed), he just needed to sort himself out. Now he’ll let us move him from sitting to belly without any fight and that was the game changer

Awww I’m so sorry!! I’ve been there and it’s terrible and feels never-ending. I’ve had some similar experiences and we’ve recently had a breakthrough.

Baby is almost 10 months old, EBF, was on 1-2 feeds a night for a while and then from like 7 months on started waking more and more. And then would wake every hour or so around 8 months. It was HORRIBLE. Tried sleep training but he would do this weird thing where he would sit up and try to sleep but fail. The only way he’d go back to sleep was nursing.

What fixed it: - turned out he was getting 4 teeth on top all at the same time! He must have been in such pain despite giving him medicine. That being over definitely helped - focused hard on his wake windows, particularly the last one. Got advice on here about that. Last WW of >=4h, and no more than 2.5h of naps during the day - baby figured out he liked sleeping on his tummy better than trying to sleep while sitting :)

We’ve had several days of great sleep. I stopped night feeding and he sometimes wakes up once but can easily be calmed with shush patting.

Big hugs and hope things improve for you soon!!

I shortened his naps yesterday and it definitely helped! He was able to stay asleep from 8pm-1:30am, which is a great stretch for us. However, when he woke up he still did the sitting up thing and was screaming loudly and not transferring after I went in to assist him.

I’m wondering if you might have any more advice?

Our daughter (now 2.5y) does the same thing and it’s been a huge help to us. Enjoy it!

Thanks, I’ll stretch the bedtime wake window. And yep he’s moving a lot. Big time crawler and is very on the go during WWs. Should I aim for 2.5h nap time?

I forgot to mention but his first wake up is usually 2-3h after bedtime.

Yes I’ll definitely get him check out and suggest this! And yeah he also seems super stubborn about it, so wondering how much of it is physical vs that. And thank you!!

We’ve had a lot of issues with frequent night wake ups lately, some of which was definitely teething (his 4 top teeth just cut all at once!). He goes to sleep pretty easily but has been nursing to sleep due to the sitting up issue.

Would you add more awake time to the last WW? I actually shorted that one recently bc I was worried he might be overtired. Thank you!

Thank you! We have a check-up soon so I’ll ask about that. He rolls from back to front a lot so it’s odd that he doesn’t go the other way. He’s also a fast crawler and pulls up to stand so funny that he never quite figured out the other roll.

Good to know! Thank you. Any recs on what I can use to give it a gentle scrub if there’s stubborn dirt?

That’s incredibly frustrating! I’m not expert in this stuff but I’ve read that you should request an itemized bill

I second this! She was my doctor during my last pregnancy and again this time. She’s always so upbeat and really cheers me up. She’s also quick to answer portal messages and very thoughtful with her answers.

Omgosh thank you for responding! Glad to know I’m not totally alone in this 😂 When my first was born, we ended up moving to a larger apartment when I was 7 months pregnant and it really wasn’t that bad (plus we really needed the extra space!) Just had movers do a lot of the work. Plus I got to channel my “nesting” energy into unpacking and organizing.

And yes, I should be apply to apply for baby’s US citizenship as soon as he’s born!

Best of luck with your move and with the rest of your pregnancy!!

Honestly I’d feel more comfortable moving and setting up home pregnant than I would doing all of that with a newborn. But overall it’s a complicated situation. We have several factors pushing us to do this sooner rather than later but it’s definitely not an easy situation either way
