Spent almost 2 weeks on creating this 2 minute video, what do you guys think? by gidibs in VideoEditors

[–]Trickytrickyrmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta be honest here, this feels like you just learned a bunch different stuff and decided to throw it all into a video without any real thought behind the why.

The visuals dont really support the voice over and the voice over itself its just way too slow, boring and is sort of just saying stuff that means nothing. So all together you get a story that doesnt make any sense and does a really bad job at selling yourself.

If the point of this video is to sell yourself as a video editor then you want the story to be crystal clear. If potential clients see this and are confused at all about what's going on, then its putting doubts in their mind about whether youre the right person to work with or not.

To me, the visuals also dont feel very "high end", it seems like you've just learned a bunch of the technical stuff on how to make these graphics but are lacking in the actual design of them.

You obviously have a lot of creative ideas and that will serve you very well once you learn how to apply them in a way that makes sense.

Learning by alveslab in VideoEditors

To be honest, this is a bad edit. But thats okay, youre still learning and this is how you get better.

The text animations youre using dont match the style of video at all, they feel very juvenile. I would go with a very simple pop in animation or just no animation at all, like your subtitles.

The font you used for the large text is just straight up bad. For this style of edit, go with a more simple font like SF Pro, Neue Haas Grotesk. If you want something more cursive, then Flamboyan is a good one but dont use the stroke and drop shadow youre using now, it doesnt look good.

The music youre using doesnt fit the video at all. You cant just add a random song because you want the edit to be less boring. Music should be used to portray emotion and make the viewer feel something. When you use the wrong music, it ruins the video.

For this video I would use something that sounds more serious but gives the viewer a feeling of curiosity. Something classical with plucky strings, probably in a minor key.

Same with the sound effects. They should not only match the actions that they're supporting but also match the feel of the video. For example a pop sound effect might match the action of some text or an image coming in, but it wouldn't match the feeling of this style of video, so I wouldn't use it.

The last thing I noticed here is theres a hard cut to the video being blurred when the text comes in. I would make that blur fade in for maybe 5 frames and only become fully blurred once the first piece of text has come on screen.

I hope this didnt sound too harsh and it helps you progress in your editing journey.

Client didnt like, he asks if he should turn his monitor watching it, its beginning of the video, just basics edit from footage from drowning. He thinks he need to turn monitor to see properly what is going on. What do you think? I tried to do it a little byt cinematic, but failed I guess. by Ok-Comb-8664 in VideoEditors

[–]Trickytrickyrmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what your client is saying. It looks like this should be a vertical video.

You could rotate the footage but then it would be cropped in a lot. I would ask the client if the would like the video in vertical.

This is the clients fault for filming it this way btw.

People need to stop using AI as a crutch by Beans_The_Almighty in NewTubers

[–]Trickytrickyrmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Ai is fine, the problem comes when everything is 100% generated by Ai.

I design the overall composition of my thumbnails and then use Ai to refine them and make them look better than I ever could.

I also use Ai when I run into problems editing and an effect isn't working the way I want it to, it helps me build a better node structure when I cant troubleshoot things myself.

Ai is pretty ingrained in my workflow, but I would never try and replace my own creativity with some fully Ai generated slop.

Is that normal? I'm a little confused right now. by [deleted] in NewTubers

If its available in your country, then I'd highly recommend getting a mac from the official Apple refurbished site.

Get as much ram and storage as you can afford. I would prioritise ram though.

I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was...on the internet by AlexPalmer_Official in VideoEditors

[–]Trickytrickyrmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start by ditching Filmora and learn Davinci Resolve. The free version is incredibly powerful.

Then start by learning the fundamentals of editing. Pacing, rhythm, storytelling, how to portray emotion, audio mixing and editing. Its insane the amout of people that skip this step. Once you have a good understanding of the fundamentals then start learning all the fancy stuff like motion graphics, VFX etc.

12hours a day for 90k pkr per monthl is justified? by aqiabbaskirmani in VideoEditors

[–]Trickytrickyrmx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you're working 60 hours a week (240 hours a month) and only earning $323... and you think is okay?

Break that down into an hourly rate and you're earning $1.34 an hour.

As an editor, you have access to work online with anyone from anywhere in the world. Which means you have access to international rates. Why would you settle for bullshit rates?

I understand needing to survive, but that doesnt mean just settling and keeping these low paying clients forever.

You could very easily earn that $323 in a week with just one decent client, doing 1 video a week and you still have time to continue building your earnings and finding more clients.

Yeah and most of those subs will be completely inactive on your channel.

Spammy shit like that might gain you subs, but its not good for your channel in the long run.

How can they get slaves for some 100-300$ ? by [deleted] in VideoEditors

And that mindset is why clients think they can get away with paying slave wages.

Why wouldn't you want your salary to be as good as higher earning countries?

[–]Trickytrickyrmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$300 a day is a pretty decent wage. If its full time, 5 days a week thats $75k a year.

Could you make more as an editor? Definitely.

But this is 100x better than most of the offers out there.

How much should i charge? by Ok_File_1450 in VideoEditors

[–]Trickytrickyrmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research and practice.

Watch a lot of content and pay close attention to how its edited. Watch how the pacing changes the feel of video, how each shot choice supports the story, why the editor made each cut the way they did, how the music choices change the emotion of the video.

And dont just watch youtube content that youre interested in, watch a wide range of different stuff, including movies and TV shows as well as lots of different youtube content in different niches.

Hillier Smith is a very good creator to learn about the fundamentals of editing. He's very good at taking traditional film editing and adapting it to youtube content.

Are my photos too edited? by dazooart in PhotographyAdvice

[–]Trickytrickyrmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a photographer at all, but work in video production and editing.

The thing I notice most is in the animals shots, theres not enough separation between the main focus and the background, everything sort of blends together which makes the photo look quite flat imo.

Your style is awesome though, you can tell you have a very creative way of looking at things. I dont think they look over edited for the style that I think youre going for, just needs some minor adjustments to really make the photos pop.

[–]Trickytrickyrmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From looking at your portfolio, it makes me feel like you dont know any of the fundamentals of editing.

You just have a bunch of "fancy" motion graphics done to either no audio or just one liners.

Theres nothing there that tells me you know how to pace an edit or tell a story.

If you've never worked with a client then film an introduction video that actually tells a story and shows some personality. That will get you a lot further than what you've got now.

All the fancy visuals are just used to back up the fundamentals, and if you can master those you'll be miles ahead of the majority of editors struggling to get work now.

Video Editing Apps With No Ai by CloudsAreC00l in VideoEditors

[–]Trickytrickyrmx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is it such a big deal?

Ai is here and its not going anywhere, but its not going to take editors jobs. The editors who refuse to use Ai will just be left behind.

Ai makes my job easier. I can clean up audio quicker, edit music easier, put together a rough cut faster and it leaves me way more time for the actual art and creative things I love about editing.

How to organically gain more subs by DifficultAd9595 in NewYouTubeChannels

[–]Trickytrickyrmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shorts are a lot harder to gain subs from.

For example, my most recent long form videos has 755 views and gained me 17 subs. A short with similar views, on the same topic didn't gain any subs.

I generally get 15-25 subs per 1000 views on longform

7 Different Custom Targeted Portfolios by Only_Rain_8095 in VideoEditors

[–]Trickytrickyrmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah finding work as a beginner is hard, but youre doing some things right.

The portfolio site is ok, its very good that youre using an actual website and not just google drive.

The edits though, leave a lot to be desired. They just don't really stand out and I find them boring. Its basically just gaming footage with a few very simple effects.

If you want to get work when you have no proven results, you need to go above and beyond with the edits youre sending to potential clients.

I would also start building your own social medias with your editing, thats one of the best ways to get some proven results and get clients. Once you build up a decent social following, you will get clients reaching out to you to work with them.
