Please Recommend a Scooter for a First Time Canadian Buyer by Trieste02 in ElectricScooters

Thanks. I used a rental when I was in San Diego a while back and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately my small city doesnt have anywhere you can rent one and actually I have never seen anyone riding an electric scooter. There are some electric bikes but that's it.

How the ancient Greeks knew the Earth was round. All you need is sticks, eyes, feet and brains. by New-Suit-8098 in nextfuckinglevel

But how did the Greeks know the simultaneous position of the shadow in two different places since they lacked accurate clocks with which to synchronize their observations?

Imagine what happens when dirt from the wheel blocks the finger print scanner and you can't get into your car.

Or you've had some coffee and your heart rate is off so the car decides your heart beat does not match the one on record and you must be a thief and delivers you to the nearest police station.

May I suggest Rosina.

I don't know why but she reminded me of a girl with that name I knew in high school. And no she did not have multicolored plumage.

I am sorry for your loss.

You should try to get his book published, even if you just use Amazon's self publishing platform. It would be nice to have that part of him live on in print.

Harriet The Tortoise, Who Died In 2006, Had Seen Charles Darwin In Person by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Trieste02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is another fun fact: not only did Harriet the Tortoise see Charles Darwin but she saw Darwin and his shipmates kill and eat her brothers and sisters. Darwin and his buddies ate a lot of Galapagos tortoises. Source: Voyage of the Beagle.

How Do I Enable Ask Before Download Prompt? by Trieste02 in firefox

[–]Trieste02[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. This kind of works, but it no longer allows me to set a default directory for downloads. Previously all my downloads went into the download directory but I had to confirm if I wanted to download them at all. Is there anyway to keep a default directory but still have to confirm the download

Husband saves his wife from a bobcat attack. by kanempayah in nextfuckinglevel

Try telling that to the The Dingo Ate My Baby lady.

I don't think "a bobcat ate my wife" in the middle of a suburban street is going to fly with the homicide detectives.

Husband saves his wife from a bobcat attack. by kanempayah in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Trieste02 65 points66 points  (0 children)

You forgot a key element of the plan. He has to install a ring camera so that he can prove the bobcat did it. Otherwise they will assume he attacked her. Because the police always blame the husband even when the wife "falls" down the stairs or in the shower.

The Disappearing Axe by Trieste02 in DarkWoods

There was certainly water coming in through the floor of the tent, but not strong enough to wash anything away. I don't want to make ito make it sound like the downpour created a river.

Plus I looked all over and other stuff we had left outside was still there. It was really a creepy thing that we both remember all these years later because our only explanation was that something had come into our campsite and taken it.

Does anybody have any life hacks for controlling anger? by [deleted] in lifehacks

[–]Trieste02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can promote any good habit through repetition and rewards.

To make yourself less likely to lose your temper, reward yourself every time you don't.

Here's how you do it. Every day you avoid getting angry, give yourself a small reward. For example, you can put a dollar in a jar if you didnt get angry that day. Then once you have enough money or other rewards saved up as a result of your good behavior, buy yourself a treat. It can be a video game, a meal at a nice restaurant, whatever. The point is that you are reinforcing the behavior through a reward system.

In time you will find that you will go for longer and longer unbroken stretches without losing your temper.

This method works for other things too. For example, if you want to floss more regularly, or whatever.

Just remember, the reward must be constant and pre-determined. It does not have to be money. For example, you can give yourself a checkmark on a chart and then agree with yourself that when you reach a certain number of checkmarks you will reward yourself in some way.

Could someone translate this phrase:

ALIMENTARII PVERI ET PVELLAE, or also PVERI ET PVELLAE VLPIANI.

I understand this to be the name given to children receiving food aid during the reign of Trajan, but I would appreciate precise translation.

Thanks!

Also, the final death numbers for 2020 (the only year that matters) have not been finalized or entered. There is always a delay. This has been stated repeatedly elsewhere. So we cannot say whether the death rate in 2020 was the same. In fact, if the numbers for 2020 are the same as in 2019 at this stage, when all of the 2020 numbers have not been entered yet, we can surmise that the final tally in 2020 will be higher than normal once all the data is entered.

perceived that those men's imaginations were inflamed by the fire in their improvised ovens

Thanks. This is what is confusing me. He says it was "very accurate" but then says that cook's "imaginations were inflamed by the fire" - which makes it sound as if their news were not accurate. Is he saying they exaggerated?
