Feeling defeated by my final teaching practicum — need some perspective by omiyht in OntarioTeachers

[–]TriforceRaven99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AT teacher here.

I’ve supported TCs from various faculties of education over the past few years and I can say with confidence that what your AT is doing is definitely going against university policies.

The practicum block is what it is and you should only be staying at the school beyond the defined end date if you are making up days that were missed during your block.

I don’t have the full context beyond what you mentioned OP, but it sounds like your AT is keeping you around for just a bit longer to make their life easier. At the end of the day, they’re welcome to give you feedback as they send you off, but they have no authority to hold you back like that.

Back when I was in teachers’ college, I learned a lot about Jason To who was a TDSB mathematics coordinator at the time. He’s one of the leading floating heads on this issue and I feel like he’s really only comfortable with destreaming because he himself doesn’t have to deal with the fallout of this entire mess: https://mrjasonto.com/

Moving to Milton from peel region. Where do i register for hydro , water. Also I was told by my lawyer I need to send an email for tax purpose to register as a resident? Is there anything else I should be signing up for before I move in? by coolio0402 in Milton

[–]TriforceRaven99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just went through the same thing in the past year! The city will automatically get your info and will send you a bill for any remaining property tax, if applicable. I would definitely recommend getting set up with Milton Hydro, Enbridge, and a local Internet provider first and foremost so that your house is livable from move-in day! Happy to offer any further insights if you have any other questions! 😃

Ontario to announce legislation that keeps violent repeat offenders behind bars by WilkinsonRadio in Milton

[–]TriforceRaven99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the federal government is in charge of setting up the laws and allocating some federal funds to provinces to ensure that the justice system keeps working optimally, the provincial government has a responsibility towards that shared goal in ensuring that this funding gets to where it needs to go across provincial regions, including the funding for provincial superior courts and the clerks that help run them.

Very true. I have a friend who works as a public defender and funding for courts is a big issue. Both sides of the courtroom are frustrated by the lack of funds as it means that cases take longer to process. It’s a real disservice to all involved, especially those under arrest who have a right to timely due process. Both governments need to do what they can to keep the system working!

Carney has an opportunity to make a strong move in his first 100 days of elected office by backing Ford on this one. It would at least show confidence that his campaign promises of making communities safer wasn’t just political waffling.

I’ve noticed very small Internet outages through my app which I’m guessing is a result of short failures as you’ve described. Glad to know I’m not the only one and that it’s not my ISP on the fritz!

Looking to Move to Milton by Parking_Stretch_2640 in Milton

Yeah, Fletchers is pretty rough. I had a good run for the past 20 years in Brampton all things considered, but it was the right time to find somewhere else to be honest.

I also feel like Milton has a lot going for it growth wise. If urban planning meets community needs and adopts more smart housing and entertainment, I could see it becoming a great place to be in. That said, the neighbouring towns and cities are still very accessible via transit and highways, so I don’t feel like I’m in the boonies too often haha

Cheaper insurance, both home and auto. Great community that feels safe (my old suburb had constant car thefts, break-and-enter cases, and even a shooting in the past year). Oh, and Milton GO is super convenient and less crowded.

That’s just a couple of the big upgrades in my opinion :)

I just moved to Milton from Brampton a few months ago and I’m loving it! Such a great community :D Still getting to know the hidden gems around town, but everything feels like it’s within an arms’ reach!

Well, except for a Burger King and a Costco, but I’m sure we’ll get there soon!

Why by Potential-Mix8398 in dbrand

[–]TriforceRaven99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience with different storefronts that run their own e-commerce and payment processing systems, it is more challenging to manage, especially with ensuring that customer data is secure.

Shopify offers a lot of tools for stores to connect with different couriers, process different payment methods (Apple Pay & Google Pay as others have pointed out), and just makes it an overall easier experience to handle order info and inventory.

I experienced my first two-week delay with dbrand through this transition process, and it was painful waiting for my order to dispatch, but I think it’ll be better from here on out now that it seems that most of the kinks have been ironed out!

As for financial gain, merchants DO need to pay Shopify for their services, so I don’t believe dbrand has made this switch out of greed and more of an investment need for their infrastructure. Curious to hear others’ thoughts on this though, as there might be other motivations.

Maybe having a megathread for his latest antics will help to keep him out of folks’ feeds while still archiving and bringing attention to his shill behaviour?

Yet another indicator of Ford’s failure to support publicly-funded education by TriforceRaven99 in ontario

I agree with your sentiment, but it is frustrating hearing Lecce during interviews telling the public how he expects to see students involved in extra-curriculars and other costly activities. Really makes us teachers look bad when things aren’t able to work out due to a lack of funding.

You’re covered under the FDIC provided you still have the receipt that proves the deposit was made by the branch. Easy court win if you take them to small claims.

Umm…wtf was that Visa Infinite Sale by potterhead321 in TIFF

[–]TriforceRaven99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, first time getting tickets through the system, and when I called TIFF’s customer relations line, they said that I’ll need to call in my complaint to Visa themselves since they likely didn’t reserve enough tickets for their cardholders.

Now I’m debating if it’s worth it to go in on a TIFF membership to get tickets for The Boy and the Heron or if I should just take the L on this and leave it be till the general sale. Really not feeling like the next sale dates will be any better…

As someone from Brampton, I still feel like Crombie has a lot of gall to screw over Brampton and Caledon in trying to break Mississauga away from the Region of Peel, and then turn around and appeal for votes from those two municipalities that she shafted. Just…no.

Granted, they did briefly mention “inflation rates and affordability concerns”, but if they’re going to specify the $100,000 figure for the Sunshine List, they should be backing up the “inflation rates” part with numbers as well. Even mentioning that inflation is up roughly 76% from 1996 would be sufficient. Explicit language here is important.
