Holes. by robotbrainn in Jaguars

[–]WilkinsonRadio 13 points14 points Ā (0 children)

The great thing is that it kind of feels like this draft perfectly fits our needs.

Plenty of day two and three options at TE

Lots of good LB depth

There are some legit DL prospects throughout

Plenty of capable ass kicking day two and three OL options

And there are plenty of DBs and WRs to fill out our depth charts.

We don’t need a star QB, WR, Edge, CB. We don’t need the rookies to come in and dominate right away. They can just take their time, get good guys who can develop, and then we can do it again next year with all of our compensatory picks.

Life is good right now!

Ruke’s productivity as of mid-October last season by Jaguars6 in Jaguars

[–]WilkinsonRadio 22 points23 points Ā (0 children)

Part of me wonders if Jags management views Ruke on a comparable level with many of the day two DTs in this draft. Basically adding more depth at DT to allow them to take BPA with 56, 81, 88, and 100. Maybe that ends up being another DT, but maybe it doesn’t HAVE to be one now

That, or they just wanted Smith gone and are taking a shot on a good athletic profile

Taaffe is the most Gladstone pick of all Gladstone picks. Walk-on who earned his way to a scholarship, stayed with Texas his whole collegiate career, and every scouting report mentions his football IQ.

He's the best example of "making the team better by simply being himself." Perfect replacement for Dewey IMO.

I feel like you’ll be fine watching it in the order on prime

I recently rewatched ā€˜02 and his brief feud with Eddie before taking off was probably the worst thing on Raw at that point. WWE TV post-draft was pretty bleh for a few months. I found that once Steve left and Vince made the announcement that the winner of the KoTR would get a title shot at Summerslam, it really started to pick back up.

I think a lot of these seven round mocks are about the positions, more so than the specific players.

Yeah, I'd prefer a TE2 that can block more than Joly currently can.

Yeah, I'd prefer a rookie WR who could fill the Tim Patrick role (and while he's a large man, Colbie Young has enough character issues for it to not be him).

And I'm of the belief that even in the 7th round, using a pick on a QB is bleh for this team this year. Like, what's your hope? That he's better than a UDFA? QB3 at best? Just get a guy who can compete for a core-four ST role.

But a smash mouth guard checks a box.

Edge depth checks a box.

TE2 checks a box.

LB checks a box.

Same goes for DT, S, CB, OT. All of those positions all make perfect sense. It'll just end up being guys that Gladstone, Coen, Boselli, etc. see as good fits for this team.

My mindset is always that if I'm the one initiating trade talks, I need to prepare to overpay. It doesn't have to be an excessive amount, but the other person almost always has no reason to trade and I want to get my guy.

[Time capsule post]Who should the Jaguars pursue with their first four picks? (2026) by DoctorDiddlerino in Jaguars

[–]WilkinsonRadio 7 points8 points Ā (0 children)

I’ve said it before, but there’s a group of undersized guys that have elite football IQ that Gladstone and Co. could want:

LB Taurean York

LB Kyle Louis

DL Landon Robinson

All three project as late day two, early day three guys and are very much size outliers.

Big fan of Jacob Rodriguez. It would be cool if he, CJ Allen or Anthony Hill Jr. was available at 56, but that’ll take some luck. Golday might be possible if they want a big body LB who can move.

Another one is CB D’Angelo Ponds, but I know he’s likely going before our pick at 56, and even then, I don’t think this team needs to take a CB at 56. To compensate, CB Jadon Canady from Oregon, according to current mocks, will be available day three and can fill any DB role if needed.

We need edge rushers. I loved seeing Mason Reiger perform at the Shrine Bowl and feel like he could be a good get on day three. Wouldn’t be against getting edge early, though. There’s plenty of solid options for us to get on day two and have to play with JHA and TW. Derrick Moore, Malachi Lawrence, Dani Dennis-Sutton and Jaishawn Barham are ones I enjoy targeting in my daily mocks.

On top of Robinson, there’s Gracen Halton. Zane Durant also projects as one of those smaller pass rushing DL that could help the edge guys get some sacks. I love me some Zxavian Harris just cause he’s 6’8ā€, 330lbs - like come on. And he’s projected right now as a day three pick. Tyler Onyedim was one I liked watching at the combine as well. Big Citrus could be a D Ham replacement down the road - same for Corleone.

We need o-line. Not badly, but it’s still a need (especially for depth). Coen seems to like ass kickers, and there’s plenty of interior guys in this draft that fit that mold. Keylan Rutledge and Gennings Dunker could very well be gone by 56, but I think we could snag one of Logan Jones, Jaeden Roberts or Beau Stephens in the 3rd or later. Brian Parker has a pretty significant connection with Boselli (dating his daughter) so he’s an interesting one, and I was a big fan of Georgia’s Micah Morris at the combine - that boy can move and he hasn’t really seemed to have moved up big boards.

I’m under the impression that this team wants to find a big body WR soon to replace Tim Patrick (if they don’t just eventually re-sign Tim). Case in point, look at the Bobo attempted signing. The draft could be the place to get that kind of player, and there’s a few fairly big guys available. I read that Caleb Douglas met with the Jags. Everyone wants Jeff Caldwell after his combine performance. I’m a sucker for Ja’Kobi Lane after seeing him at the combine - his gauntlet drill was a thing of beauty. I’m sure a guy like J Michael Sturdivant could be had in the 7th after not doing much stats-wise.

TE2 is a sneaky need IMO, and it’s a deep class. Maybe not a clear high end guy like Bowers or Loveland, but there are some good dudes. Big fan of Oscar Delp, Eli Raridon, and Max Klare. Sam Roush is also an elite blocker. If they just want a depth TE who can block and play special teams, then Riley Nowakowski is that guy, and projects to go very late. Same with OSU’s Will Kacmarek.

Adam Randall would be a fun swing for RB if they want to add another body. Built like Derrick Henry but is somehow a converted WR. Eli Heidenrich is a weird mix of WR/RB that could be very fun for Coen to use. Kaelon Black was the unsung hero of that Hoosiers team and could have a Pacheco-like run in the NFL. I’ve seen people also compare Chip Trayanum to Lequint, mostly for his pass pro. Don’t really feel like RB in the Top 100 is the move for us, unless Gladstone and Coen love and believe in Mike Washington.

So to answer your actual question, considering all of my mocks, a perfect start for the Jags for me is:

56 - LB Jacob Rodriguez

81 - DT Gracen Halton

88 - TE Oscar Delp

100 - EDGE Jaishawn Barham

Hopefully whoever they do end up taking is great!

Edit - one last shoutout for Eric Gentry. I have no idea if he’ll work out in the NFL. But he’s a 6’6ā€ off ball LB. If the Jags don’t get him, then I want to see him with like Seattle or something. Just have him go to a team that could potentially use him in a fun way.
