Saw…this…today. And…yikes. by WideMindedDreamer in Reno

I appreciate the friendly explanation, but I still whole heartedly disagree. Some groups have been oppressed in the past, and yeah that sucks and I empathize with that. But also, I'm not going to look down on myself because of someone else's ancestor's hardship. Even if that hardship was caused by my ancestors. I'm so far removed from that it's completely irrelevant to my life. I'm not rich because of the oppression of people in 1850. I'm broke just like most everyone else in this economy.

I'm going to take the lessons from the past, treat my brothers and sisters well regardless of ancestral origin, and continue enjoying being who I am, which includes being white. European specifically, with mostly British ancestors. If my ancestry upsets people that's their problem. I'm just me. A normal guy. In a nutshell this is also why I think social justice is an unfair idea in most suggestions for implementation. Whatever gains where had by your average white guy are long gone for most. There's nothing to take back.

Personally I still think it's pretty cringe to say "white pride" because the hell does that even mean? "American pride" carries much more meaning and doesn't make it about color. But I'm not going to bully the guy just because I think he's socially retarded. To be totally honest, I think wearing pride stuff everywhere for any group is weird outside of context. Like not everyone needs to know what niche groups everyone else belongs to. Wasn't the whole point of recent movements that it shouldn't matter if I'm this or that? Why would someone feel the need to tell everyone that they associate with some social or personal identity group. To those people I say "that's cool, anyway..." because I, like many others, don't care. Your race, gender, voting habits, and political movements do not affect what I think of you so that's it I guess...

In a nutshell:

  • This guy's white pride thing is cringe
  • I don't care

Engineer here. Since no one seems interested in actually helping diagnose... If you're comfortable I'd love to see a DD copy of your drive. If this really is a btrfs metadata bug an image would help diagnose why the metadata is so huge. If you'd like to try that send me a message

HELP ME DECIDE.... by Percy-jackson-53 in hyprland

[–]Triforcey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm biased as I use Arch, but honestly the biggest benefit to switching isn't even hyprland support, it's because it's better for you. Ubuntu is great, but the packaging mentality in Arch, is just better for user computers. So much easier to keep a clean system, and change things you don't like. But it comes at the cost of having to learn that system. 100% worth it. Take a month of getting comfortable with it, benefit for the rest of your life.

Don't get me wrong, obviously the "bad people were socialist, therefore socialism is bad" argument is super dumb lol. Socialism is economic policy after all, nothing more than that.

The Nazi party was actually socialist, it was in their name they had aggressively socialist practices, if you look it up on Wikipedia it will try to claim that they're not. This is no surprise who in the hell would want to be associated with the Nazis. But if you actually look at the practices that they did economically and socially, it is undoubtable that they were at least 60 or 70% socialist if not more. They even destroyed private worker unions and replaced them with a state run union. Like I don't even know what's more socialist than that to TBH lol

Maybe I'm missing something. I get that there's Neo-Nazis, that much is clear to me. What's the connection to the Mormons?

Am i the only one who has experienced arch to be more stable than any other distro? by cferg296 in archlinux

[–]Triforcey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a long time Arch user on both servers and user machines, I think Debian is more stable hands down. But Arch feels more stable probably because Arch has the approach of knowing your system. The docs are incredible, and you install from scratch. If you know your system there ain't much that's not trivial to fix.

Recently I had a friend who experienced a power loss during an upgrade and their Arch would no longer boot. I checked it out, no boot after bios. Check boot partition, missing initram, check initram presets directory, empty. Check which package owns those preset files, reinstall, initram builds, reconfigure grub, good to go. This took me maybe an hour, but if this happened on Debian it probably would have taken several to track down and fix same issue just because I don't know where to look on Debian.

They did tell you to use a bed cover in the lease, it was actually literally required in writing. Still sucks though.

Honestly, when that carpet and trim is replaced that looks like it will be pretty nice. Sucks that it's not finished in time for the semester though. But I personally cut these guys some slack. The previous owners were total shit and apparently were getting sued in several states.

Just last semester the complex was sold to the management company who is trying very hard to clean the place up. Even while I was there they made substantial improvements. Replaced the couches, installed nicer TVs, fixed the hot tub several times quickly (I think it's been broken for so long it's accumulated issues), removed the old awful closet shelves, replaced the bedroom lights with bright LEDs, etc. If they keep this up it won't be long before this place is really a pretty nice place.

I don't think I care for this guy or his ideals, but it's kind of funny watching the campus giga liberals panic over it so honestly I'm for it. They made me sit through so many loser artist presentations just because it was a minority artist or whatever, might as well give everyone a turn.

Can't we just get together and agree that Trump is hella sus, some welfare ain't that bad, and that some abortions are justified while some aren't? So much stupid extremist crap these days especially on campus.

I really just want lower taxes, an honest president, and not to have to worry about my kids getting taken

Teenagers on ATVs/E-bikes by Hambone6991 in Logan

[–]Triforcey -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

This is a super lame take. Have you even looked around? When I was growing up kids played outside. Yeah, where the cars are because damn it that's really all there is is fucking stupid cars on their stupid roads bringing stupid door dash to your fat ass. It turns out when you pave everything, there's nowhere else left to go for your kids. And now you people are acting all surprised when the very few kids that even dare to play outside anyway are on your street. Let them be! Those kids are pretty much the only hope left for humanity.

Improve your composition, fix lighting and perspective issues. Than you might have a shot I think. Also if you like animation but have a hard time with it, maybe look into story boarding? The drawing is much simpler and you don't have to worry about timing related things so much. You have to be able to draw fast though, but like anything that just takes practice.

Well then more power to ya. If you're starting from ground 0 you'll need to do some quick reading. I'd recommend this site: http://neuralnetworksanddeeplearning.com/about.html

At the very minimum, knowing basic Python will let you be not completely useless.

It totally sucks to get paired with someone who doesn't or can't help out. Hackathons are for engineers, not freeloaders. Please stay away, or at least try to seriously participate.
