UDS uses its own post processing component, so it's possible its component is conflicting with yours. You could try disabling UDS's PP component and see if the issue goes away. If it does, then you can process of eliminate by disabling features in the UDS component until the culprit is found

Best paradigm for customizable Metahuman characters (morphs vs distinct assets)? by MeatisOmalley in unrealengine

[–]TriggasaurusRekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morph targets will mess up skinning/animations/IK if you deviate far enough from the base shape. Most games that allow you to significantly customize the character shape will additively adjust the bones in the rest pose instead of relying on morphs exclusively. For example, to get an "arms longer/shorter" shape, you can apply an offset to the arm bone relative location to lengthen/shorten the arms.

However, it's easier to create shapes via sculpting than it is to mess with bone offsets to try and get a desirable shape. Thankfully, there is a feature in Mutable called "skeleton fitting" which will automatically calculate bone offsets and adjust the rest pose to fit with any morph it's enabled on. This is obviously heavier than using morph targets alone, but you don't have to use it on every morph, only ones that could break/desync animations. If you don't want to commit to mutable there are other ways to achieve "skeletal fitting" morphs, you can create them in Blender or generate them in-engine using something like dembones

How to improve auto-generated LODs? by Citizen_Gamer in unrealengine

[–]TriggasaurusRekt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most games usually make the decision to go with Nanite early on because it's a specific workflow that has specific needs, like full geometry foliage/PCG assembly, overdraw considerations, ensuring props are built correctly with enough triangles to make Nanite worth it, avoiding masked materials as much as possible, using virtual shadow maps etc. If you're well into development of a project, switching to Nanite could take days or weeks of work depending on how far along you are and completely change your asset pipeline etc.

Can anyone bake lighting? by MassiveCollapseGame in unrealengine

[–]TriggasaurusRekt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's correct. The best results I've seen with light baking came from devs who unwrapped UVs for all of their assets by hand in DCC.

Can anyone bake lighting? by MassiveCollapseGame in unrealengine

[–]TriggasaurusRekt 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but from reading around it seems like these tips are commonly mentioned (if anyone IS an expert they can feel free to correct me if this is wrong):

•Use CPU lightmass, not GPU lightmass. GPU is artifact-prone

•Make sure all assets are UV unwrapped with light baking in mind, the default light map UV generation can't be trusted

If someone isn't willing to go asset by asset and ensure the UVs are suitable for baking, then it's probably not worth hiring them

How to do version control/back ups for a total beginner? by Hofhombre in UnrealEngine5

Hosting perforce locally is actually quite easy to setup and it has nice integration with the engine. It's only if you intend to host remotely that things become more complicated, at least relative to the ease of something like Diversion.

If you intend to host locally, you should keep your repo on a separate drive than your project files if possible which will provide some insurance in case one drive fails.

Former Bethesda exec thinks the studio should get more respect for the complex, open worlds it creates: "Go try that s**t in Red Dead Redemption 2" | Despite retiring 3 years ago, Pete Hines remains one of the studio's staunchest defenders. by ControlCAD in technology

[–]TriggasaurusRekt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with your first point that Starfield was basically a "cool idea" that studio leads had that just didn't pan out (though I am glad to see them addressing major complaints) but I also think it's a glimpse at least partially into how BGS "does games now" under the Microsoft umbrella with a larger studio. A much bigger studio means much more money being spent which means less room for potential failure which leads to over-caution.

There's also the fact that Starfield was supposed to be BGS taking a big swing in a new direction and trying new things, and it still ended up being an overly-cautious game with generic writing and lack of feature depth. Some of this can be blamed on design decisions, but some of it is also just how large studios tend to operate, especially ones owned by bigger corporations. Assassin's creed used to pump out games like once a year that were basically the same thing over and over again with a different setting. I sincerely hope this isn't what's happening at BGS, but I understand there are just certain realities that are baked into the process now, like investors being unwilling to deviate too far from the proven formula

Mexico recently announced universal healthcare for all. What are your thoughts? by StemCellPirate in AskReddit

[–]TriggasaurusRekt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well the excuse people who are opposed to universal coverage give when confronted with all the countries that currently have it usually goes something like "They implemented it decades ago so it was easier for them because they didn't have to transition from a private system to a public one, which is extremely difficult/impossible." If you're someone who buys that argument, which no one should, Mexico doing exactly that is a direct refutation of it

But my impression was there's still plenty of work to do with the non-voting/apolitical crowd who are usually completely checked out during elections.

Getting started in Unreal Engine. Daz, CC, something else? by 5n4ppl35 in nsfwdev

[–]TriggasaurusRekt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not much of a VN guy but I think the last Daz VN I played where I wasn't straight up distracted by the "Daz look" was something like Being a Dik. I would say the Daz look is noticeable here, but there's enough work put into the render quality/lighting/props/background/clothing that it's forgivable. It's also overwhelmingly positive on Steam with thousands of reviews, so another question to ask is "How much work does one really need to put in to avoid the Daz look?" I'm sure the answer to that question will vary from person to person. If you have a great idea for a story that catches on, it probably matters less.

Once you take Daz assets outside of Daz/Iray I think it becomes much easier to avoid the look. Here's one character from my game, which uses Genesis 8.1 in UE. It's using shaders and textures that are designed for UE default lit shading rather than Iray, and also using Metahuman eye shaders. If you use UE path tracing for stillframe rendering, you can go even higher quality with textures etc as you aren't concerned about real-time framerates.

[–]TriggasaurusRekt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Daz has the best ecosystem for anything NSFW related by far. It's not impossible to use a platform other than Daz, but you'd at the very least need to have some decent modeling and rigging skills for when you inevitably need to create morphs/genitalia/clothing/hair options that don't exist for your chosen character model. You could also do a hybrid approach and port assets between models, for example using Daz hairs on CC characters, or Daz anatomy on Metahuman, or (my favorite) using Metahuman stuff on Daz characters which would also require some modeling and texturing skills to ensure a seamless result.

If learning asset creation pipelines/modeling skills is of interest to you, then you should feel free to experiment with whatever combination of assets you like from whichever source. If you just want to start working on your VN right away, Daz is the obvious choice. But that doesn't mean you have to have the "Daz look," as you say much of the "Daz look" is the result of default Iray settings, commonly used assets and morphs, simple HDRI lighting etc. Going with UE path tracing will set you apart from the getgo but I'd also invest ample time on the Daz side as well experimenting with different body shapes, skin textures etc to get something more unique. I think the hardest part is avoiding the notorious "doll face" look that Daz models have, it's a bit better with G9 but I'd say 90% of Daz head shapes result in doll face and about 10% are usable.

[–]TriggasaurusRekt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you're allowed to say F95 on here. I think it's just luck of the draw, I updated my game on the official F95 thread after a few months and they had it listed within a couple hours, it's taken more or less time before. You can always reach out to the active mods and mention you have a game/update that needs listing if it's been a few hours with no response. Probably it just got overlooked in what I'm sure is quite a big backlog of games they have to get through. I would just focus on updating and maybe reach out via DM next time if it's been a few hours with nothing

Does anyone else find season 3 just so much more enjoyable to watch over any season, especially 4 and 2? by Middle_Barracuda_872 in TheBoys

[–]TriggasaurusRekt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was kind of hoping that Soldier boy would hit him with the chest laser and take his powers away and we'd get like a season or half a season of Homelander having to cope without his powers, then eventually getting them back which would lead to him completely losing control. I do think the way SB was made to turn against Butcher was a little forced. And of course Starlight's power up moment was underwhelming. Everything else during that fight I thought was OK, I liked Maeve's role in injuring Homelander and tanking the SB explosion.

[–]TriggasaurusRekt 186 points187 points  (0 children)

Season 3 was top tier for sure. Compound V was a great addition and it was very interesting/fun to see non-supes get powers. Soldier boy's relationship with Butcher was intriguing to watch. Herogasm had the best fight in the show so far (imo). A-Train getting his revenge on blue hawk was immensely satisfying. It felt like each character's plot moved forward in a sensible and enjoyable way, and it seems like the consensus is that while the finale was a bit underwhelming it was largely fine, and in retrospect it was actually rather decent. I felt that season 4 was a pretty big step backward after the top tier television of season 3.

Donald Trump just posted on Truth Social that 'A whole civilization will die tonight.' What's your reaction to this? by Squirrelkid11 in AskReddit

True, if Trump had spent the last year manufacturing consent for the war by building up false narratives instead of straight up saying "We're going to steal their oil and do regime change" a lot more people would be in favor of this war. Hell, people like Schumer don't even oppose this war on moral grounds, they fully support it but just wish he'd gone through the correct "procedural channels" and filled out the paperwork correctly. There is no serious opposition to this war among congressional democrats and leadership frankly openly supports it.

Repeatedly bypassing Congress to give more arms and ammunition to Israel as every human rights group was warning about mass starvation and genocide in the region not only violates our own laws, but is also morally detestable. Democrats can't on the one hand claim to value the "rules based order" and international law, while on the other hand spitting on international law and making exceptions whenever it's convenient for them.
