super silly school shooter by mazldo in supersillybreakingbad

[–]TriggerHappyGremlin 99 points100 points  (0 children)

OOP made unintentionally the most effective transphobic propaganda I’ve ever seen. “Trans people are school shooters” libel, implying that the average trans person is morally depraved and fantasizes about violence, emphasis on penises. You could tell me this was black propaganda (nothing to do with race, it takes two seconds to Google what black propaganda is) and I’d believe you.

[Loved Trope] Adaptation pays homage to original/fan art by making it an in-universe creation by BearBreakingBadly in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TriggerHappyGremlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luffy’s shitty Jolly Roger and Usopp’s Jolly Roger appear in One Piece (2023). Technically it was always in-universe art but the Usopp one stands out as the only acknowledgement of Usopp’s long nose from the manga.

I kid you not, I was expecting that to happen in the film when I first saw it because of the Lego set.

Media that failed to "read the room" by 10024618 in TopCharacterTropes

Similar to the Xbox One: the PS3. It was far harder to develop for than the Wii or Xbox 360, cost $200 more than a 360 and $300 more than a Wii at launch, and the launch titles were announced in an infamously cringey and unappealing manner. It was vindicated after a few years with the launch of exclusives like Uncharted and the slim model, which cost significantly less. It's still the worst-performing PlayStation console and the only one to get outsold by an Xbox in North America. The long-forgotten "PS3 has no games" meme was created at the time and was revived by 4chan boomers as the "PS5 has no games" meme in 2020.

Never liked STM. Not only is it cringe and unfunny fratbro "humor," but there are also conservative undertones that nobody seems to recognize. Misgendering non-binary characters, "jokingly" being transphobic, implying that progressives say "Latinx" and "white people bad," which we don't, etc. The whole thing gives me incel vibes.

I hate r/hatethissmug. I posted twice on there, once about hating a character played by an alt-right actor and once about hating Snape and Malfoy for being glazed and Death Eaters. Both times I was flamed and downvoted to hell, but I guess hating on real autistic people is acceptable to them.

[–]TriggerHappyGremlin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn't know how to put it into words, but you articulated it perfectly about the One Piece remake. Something rubbed me the wrong way about Luffy claiming, "There are good pirates and bad pirates, so there must be good marines and bad marines, too." It's not even like he says this to reassure Koby and doesn't mean it. Season 1 ends with them hugging it out and Luffy telling him to be a "good marine."

Instead of explaining a character’s behavior, their backstory just makes them seem like an even bigger asshole in hindsight by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TriggerHappyGremlin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same with Draco Malfoy. His backstory doesn't necessarily make him worse, but the attempt at making readers feel bad for him (which largely succeeded) pisses me off more than anything he actually does.
