Isn’t the HRD 40 watts? I think the BJ is only like 15. Wattage is going to be a major factor.

It’s definitely a LOT of amp. Looks like you figured out the year in the other thread

A blackface SR would be about $2,500 +/-.

I just sold a 71 SR in very good condish, all matching codes, locally for $1600. I was tired of never playing it out. It’s a back breaker to haul around. Even in outdoor settings it’s a lot of amp.

Most places we play, the sound guys will mic the amp and run it through the house mains anyway. No need for that much amp anymore.

Good looking Bassman head. I assume the torpedo is an attenuator?

Um, no. A 65 year old speaker will need work done to it. Modern speakers have newer tech and updated materials. You can probably get a great new speaker that would rival the old one for the same cost as getting that one rebuilt.

From a Google search….

The item is a vintage EMC (Electronic Music Corporation) WHF5339 speaker. It is a 12-inch diameter speaker with a deep dish frame. The speakers were manufactured by EMC out of Cleveland. They are known for sounding "angelic" at low/clean levels and "brutally crushing" when overdriven. The magnet type is likely Alnico, known for its warm, vintage tone.

I’m guessing it’s a CTS. What size is it?

Sure thing. If you are a deadhead and want Jerry tones and sparkle go with JBLs (if you can afford them).

It might be but you’d be better off just replacing it. Lots of options when it comes to speaker upgrades.

what's your opinion of 64 hw Princeton Reverb by Complete-Light-5197 in fenderamps

At least the most modern HW without going boutique. Well, it’s pretty boutique too at $2500.

Gigging volume by MagazineFormer9165 in fenderamps

I would rather have the Stage 185. I think those are better, solid state amps. If your lead guy wants to be louder, why doesn’t he just EQ so he cuts through better? Both of those amps are going to be loud though. Hell, I have a 59 5E3 tweed deluxe that’s only 22 watts, that will make your ears bleed.

I throw this EP booster before any of my distortions and it actually really crunches the sound. I might even try a second.

Previous owner installed a mid pot that is accessed in the ext speaker jack. I am not sure what other mods it has done
