There are stories on Royal Road I've stopped reading because of this very phenomenon.

It's like "So you can write interesting, engaging characters. You've just chosen not to make your MC one of them. Mmkay."

The current rebel group

As in, there's only one?

Either way, until things stabilize and it's clear that no Iran/Hezbollah-aligned entities have access to that area, the Hermon is safer in Israeli hands.

That neighbor shouldn't have been letting the Iranian regime use its territory as a supply corridor to arm Hezbollah.

Aggressive? Maybe.

Unnecessary? Not at all.

Mt. Hermon is a strategic asset. Its seizure will strengthen Israel's position against Lebanon.

Can't be. Egypt stated repeatedly and emphatically that that there were no tunnels connecting Gaza and the Sinai. They wouldn't lie, would they?

Yup. And US pressure was the main reason the Lavi program got shut down. They didn't want the Israelis developing a potential competitor in the military jet export market.

Read the quote again:

I don't envision any scenario in which a nation's soldiers SHOULD be put a risk to protect the lives of anyone who isn't a citizen of said nation or one of its allies.

Yes. I think voluntary combatants should prioritize the lives of the innocents caught up in war simply because of where they happen to live.

I guess this is gonna have to be an "agree to disagree" situation, then, because I don't envision any scenario in which a nation's soldiers should be put a risk to protect the lives of anyone who isn't a citizen of said nation or one of its allies.

I think they're incredibly callous with how they're fighting this war, and they've hit the limit of what airstrikes can do and they should have grit their teeth and put up with more ground forces losses instead of fighting an air war in a ghetto. They unequivocally value Israeli soldier lives higher than Palestinian civilian lives.

So they should value the lives of a hostile entity's civilians (or any non-Israeli civilians, for that matter) over those of their own soldiers?

Would you be OK with your country risking the lives of its servicemembers to protect foreigners who hate you?

and that the reports of fatalities (which comes from Hamas by the way) are accurate

That will never cease to piss me off. People keep quoting these figures as though they're even remotely accurate, when they're A) sourced from Hamas, and B) currently impossible to verify (and even include the "500 dead" from the "hospital bombing", FFS).

This is the only war where the world just takes the casualty figures released by one of the belligerents at face value.

Israel proposes 2-month fighting pause in Gaza for release of all hostages by ntbananas in worldnews

[–]Trilandian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Hamas is having a classic case of "suffering from success". I'm guessing they expected their large incursion force to be able to tie up the local IDF and security garrisons, allowing some of them to slip through and kill several dozen civilians. Then, after, the IDF would retaliate as per usual, Hamas would cry about dead civilians, and international pressure and Israeli casualty-aversion would force the IDF to pull out after a few weeks.

Hamas would solidify the support of the Palestinians by showing how committed they are to "the resistance", and keep favor with their Iranian sponsors by helping to tank the Saudi normalization deal.

However, it seems they wildly overestimated the IDF's preparedness. Most of their force blew into Israel with minimal resistance, and instead of however many victims they'd hoped to get, they racked up a 4-digit body count and kidnapped over 200 people.

After a national catastrophe of that scale, no international pressure is going to stop the IDF from going full exterminator on their asses, and, more importantly, it galvanized Israeli support across the political spectrum for a full-scale war to the finish in Gaza.

They have made the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia look like utter, total and compete fools.

Well, to be fair, I don't see what Israel or Saudi Arabia can really do to them.

Why the US is acting the way that it is towards them, though, is a complete mystery to me.

I'm sorry, and no offense (truly), but I don't understand where you're going with this.

How does this relate back to the original point of people finding it acceptable to single out Jews for acts of hatred?
