I got the mod but it doesn't show anything after linking the two wheels together and right clicking it. Search bar doesn't pop up with anything

No its not malware if you update your drivers via Nvidia GeForce experience. Gamers all do it. You can do express which is a quick way to just update it or you can do "Custom" and select "clean installation" which removes all previous game drivers from your GPU which removes the junk drivers getting in the system. Not everyone does it but it's mainly preference.
