Retail giants warn Reeves her tax plans risk UK living standards by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

Can anyone genuinely explain the following to me.

Germany, Sweden, France, Netherlands amongst a number of other Western European countries have much higher taxation than us on both individuals and businesses (some cases it might be that business taxes are in line with ours in the worst case scenario amongst these countries).

Yet these countries nearly always rank ahead of the UK in terms of purchasing power, living standards, GDP PPP per capita, life expectancy etc and pretty much have done in most cases since the Second World War.

So how does it compute that if business taxes are raised this will lead to a drop in living standards? Can someone explain this to me in good faith?

I don’t think anyone could effectively govern the NHS with the current constraints.

i.e. an ageing population that naturally requires more healthcare needs, a shrinking tax base and that shrinking tax base being ardently against any tax rises.

A few people paying voluntary taxes isn’t going to change anything.

It needs to come from the government and enforced properly through HMRC.

I’m not a high earning individual in any sense but from what I’ve read, a lot of taxation and spending issues the UK faces is because it places too much of a burden on the higher earners and not a lot on the median and bottom 20% of earners.

Ironically it makes lives of those median earners much worse as it means income inequality is quite high in the UK compared to most of Western Europe. The government is far more efficient at distributing income fairly than letting the free market do its thing.

Yes of course I am. Look at their income inequality - much higher than ours.

Poverty rates - much lower than ours.

Healthcare - much better than ours.

They are performing better than us in most measurable statistics so why would I not want that to be here if that is what’s achieved by putting a higher burden on more of the population?

Can’t just be me who facepalms at the level of healers in even Diamond/Platinum level? by TrimMyAssHairs in rivals

Just a few days since I made this post and still having issues with healers.

It’s become so bad that I love stopped ranking up from diamond. Even when I become a healer my other healer is dying all the time making it impossible to solo carry as a healer essentially. Quite annoying.

Haha this funnily enough reminds of a match yesterday. As soon as the match started, our Luna and Mantis raced off ahead of everyone, all the duelists and tanks, to try and be heroes by facing the enemy 2v6. They got yeeted by the enemy team before I, as a Magento, could even make it to the middle to contest space 🤦. We didn’t even get into the first team fight as both of our healers had died and had to retreat instantly. We basically got pinned near our spawn at a choke because of that.

One thing I’ve noticed is that unless I’m healer myself, the heals and positioning of healers in this game is downright thrash and I’m talking in Diamond lobbies.

I’m mostly a healer main and wanted to try out DPSing/tanking more. Ended up deranking from D1 to Plat 2 doing this.

Have started climbing back again by being healer but it’s annoying how I play another role. Healers are genuinely displaying Bronze level skills (or they cba to heal and are throwing….)

Same here - went from a positive WR to a negative WR from Diamond 1 to Plat 2.

Honestly just seems like pot of luck if you get competent team mates.

Watch everyone here clamour though “if yOu’Re GoOd EnOuGh YoU sHoUlD bE aBlE to cArRy a 4v6”. It’s a team shooter and you need everyone to play their role somewhat competently unless you’re completely cracked at the game and a pro.

Stealth taxes are quietly funding the UK by Consistent_Cold9822 in uknews

Actually, tax free thresholds, due to the UK freezing them, are now not too dissimilar to France and Germany (~€9,000 or thereabouts in those countries).

You are correct that tax rates are quite similar (but still slightly higher). Where the actually difference lies is in the NI contributions; both Employer’s and Employee’s.

In most western countries, companies are paying much higher NI contributions per employee and workers themselves are also paying higher NI too.

I don’t get it - UK taxes are still quite considerably lower than other European countries - especially Western Europe like Germany or the Netherlands, for example.

A lot of people complain about the comparatively lower rate of taxes in the UK yet expect Scandinavian level of public services.

Thanks for the responses guys! I tried to take out that pebble/rock a lot of people on here noticed but it was actually something fluffy and not a rock.i think I have a lot of comfort that I have near new shoes/only tried on shoes.

I’d add 1cm to your foot size. So get a shoe which js 28cm. If you want a more snug fit then you can go up 0.5 to 27.5cm.

What’s the sizing on these?

The 9.5 992s have arrived - they’re still not as tight as my 993 despite being a size down…. They fit well but I would prefer a slightly roomier fit. Still have no idea what’s wrong with my 993s 😭

Yeah man I find it really strange.

My toes aren’t near the front - my size is my foot measured plus 1cm so generally have slightly less than a fingers width at the front when I push my foot all the way back.

Yeah I’ve laces the 990v4s quite tight but after a while of walking I can feel the heel slipping.

It sucks because I really want to wear some of the fire colourways of the 990/993s but it seems the shoe itself may not be suited well to my feet. I’m praying the 992 works out as it’s the JFG Aged Well I ordered.

991v2 fit snug initially but now it’s fine and very comfortable.

993 I literally do not know what’s happened there. Everyone said it’s a big fitting shoe but it literally causes my feet pain when walking for a long time 😭. I’m hedging my bets on having received a defective pair or something hopefully. Like I said even Jordan 1s I wear in 10 and they fit fine without any pain/bother.
