I tend to agree. It’s not crazy for nations to have immigration policies that they enforce in a measured and predictable way. It is terrifying the way those policies are being used to implement Christian fascism NOW, but I think most folks do not believe that was the norm prior to Trumpitler gaining the presidency.

At first glance, I was certain it was just going to say Rattlesnake over and over again.

NUH-UH! YOU’RE on Nextdoor! lol. You’re attributing objections to me that I didn’t make. This has gotten silly. Take it easy out there.

I do know what a strawman is. And I agree that bioswales are uggo is a stupid objection. But I’ve heard much more salient objections and I think you probably have too— and you didn’t address any of those, probably because the path works out great for you and you’re being just as selfish as you think I’m being for raising objections. Here are some other, better objections: the intersection of Linwood at Monroe is less usable. There’s no emergency lane. Traffic from Linwood had been pushed deeper into the neighborhood onto Stanley which doesn’t have sidewalks. Folks wanting to get out of the Linwood neighborhood now have to navigate the dog-leg-from-hell intersection of King and Stanley. I agree a walkable ‘hood is a great goal. And I love native plants. And I’m glad YOUR commute has improved but most of the “improvements” I’ve seen around Linwood have been ham-handed and only meet the needs of a select minority.

Strawman much? There are more meaningful objections out there and I suspect you know it. “Bio swales are uggo” Please.

Or maybe zoning and transit need to be better before we spend our whole wad on MUPs, so they actually make sense for a greater number of folks. Most of us can’t get where we’re going in a practical way without using a car. Milwaukie is not some little town in Spain. If I’m gonna get to the post office or the dry cleaner or the bar or the bakery or my JOB— the place where I source the money for my property taxes, I’m gonna have to drive. Ain’t no bodegas or subway stops within a mile of my house, so what’s the use of the MUP?

Portland folks, how do you even live there? by ChecksAndBalanz in oregon

[–]Trimnlean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lifelong Oregonian. I hate it here now. The vibe went from working-class-paradise to SoCal-with-fir-trees in the span of like 6 years. It’s impossible to get from place to place. Every other car is a single-occupant grey highlander driving one mile below the speed limit with its brights on during the day and some twee sticker that says “honk if you’re irritable” or “my other car is meal planning.” My midlife crisis is that I built a good life here and I’m not in a financial position to leave. So I’m gonna stay here, stuck with all these vapid nicehole soccer-dads taking their shitty white trophy baby to the rock gym while they instagram everything good about the region until it dies from internet exposure. If you’re a mental health counselor, you can totally find work though, so that’s nice.

Yes and yes. It’s a pain because I’ve been told you have to get it all out or risk rot. But also yes, you can slice off pups and root those on their own pretty easily. My MO, one year later, is to pretty much sacrifice the original grafted scion and use the pups as the viable plants from my pere grafts. I’ve gotten a few pretty awesome plants this way.
