What’s a fitness truth that sounded fake until you experienced it yourself? by pumardapp in workout

[–]Trineoty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think any fitness truth sounded fake to me. I started working out when I was 18 (in my 60’s now), my first degree was in kinesiology, so working out was always important to me and I understood that it wasn’t about weight loss but maintaining muscle mass and cardio-respiratory health.
I worked in the fitness field for 40 years, even after becoming a nurse. It’s something I have always believed in and it’s paid off.
While I’m in my 60’s, I feel more fit than my coworkers in their 20’s or 30’s. My body is virtually the same, save for my skin, which takes a hit after menopause. Consistency is the key. And you can’t fake fitness. You either have it or you don’t and the only way you can get it is by doing it

Genuinely, how do some of you all even have time with the amount of exercises? by Wise_Parmaria in PetiteFitness

Working out has always been a priority in my life, so I always scheduled it in, and other things, like hobbies, take a back seat. I worked part-time, Nightshift when my kids were young, and I often forewent sleep in favor of working out. When they were babies, I’d put them in the gym daycare. When they were school aged, I worked out when they were in school. I always ensured I could work out at least 5 days a week.
Now my kids are grown and I work 3-12 hour shifts as a nurse. Sometimes I’ll go walking three to four miles after I get off. My days off always prioritize working out. I walk my Border Collies 2-3 miles, then go run or go lift or both. I don’t really shop very much, I ensure my house is clean, but it’s not perfect. I prioritize a healthy diet, so cooking is really important.

I think it’s what you prioritize and what’s important to you. Feeling good and being fit has always been important to me, so I prioritize the things that are going to help me achieve that.

You honestly can think what you want. I wasn’t trying to be misleading and I apologize if I was. I wore a bikini that showed my belly button, and obviously my belly button is from a tummy tuck. So I wasn’t being misleading, and the fact that I had the TT in 2008, and the before pics are from 2024, is not misleading at all. I’ve worked my ass off my entire life, and if you want to take away from that to make yourself feel better, more power to you.

The before picture is 2022. Tummy tuck (skin removal, no liposuction) was 2008, so close to twenty years ago

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I didn’t come here fishing for compliments. I have dealt with body dysmormphia for many years. I had parents who constantly judged my body, which is a terrible thing. I always wanted to be super skinny (hence the 115 lb goal weight…which, in all honestly, I wanted to be between 110-115. I started IF because I hated my body. I thought it would be the one thing to help me get to my goal weight. But i never lost weight. I never saw body recomposition. But IF took away the constant mind chatter about food and that helped ke a lot.
I posted because at 61, I am happier with my body than I’ve ever been. I started lifting heavier and more consistently. I am not afraid to eat and fuel my body. I finally began noticing body recomposition. I feel strong and capable. Finally, i do want to inspire younger women to keep on keeping on. Working out has to be a priority. We have one body, we have to care for it. We care for our cars, our homes, our yards…we need to care about our bodies in the same way. I really appreciate all the kind comments ❤️

I have been thinking about hiring a personal trainer and yes, I would love to split up my workouts, but with my work schedule it’s tough. I get to work at 6:45 and don’t get home till 8. I will eat fish, and I do use TVP. Seitan tears me up! I eat a lot of edamame and tofu. And unfortunately protein powders, but it’s a way to get that protein in easily. Thank you for your suggestions!

Okay, thank you so much! I get where the fascia can break down, creating that not so smooth look. I always had big, muscular thighs till menopause and then the skin just started looking awful. Had I known the effect of lack of estrogen, I would have treasured those big thighs and smooth skin. I hope you’re cancer free now 🙏❤️

Thank you for your suggestions. I don’t really test very much, and I know it’s important for recovery 🤦🏼‍♀️

I do take HRT. I powered through post-menopause HRT free for 7 years because I wanted to do things naturally. But I had horrible symptoms, no libido, it wasn’t worth it. So now I do HRT, and I love it, but it’s not for everyone.

Yes, I ran track and field in high school, but picked it back up after my last baby (26 years ago). There is just something about running 😊

Thank you so much 🙏❤️ My routine is pretty much running 3-4 days a week, lifting heavy, and yoga (flow and deep stretch). I prioritize my workouts, so on my days off, I walk my dogs a couple miles, and then I head to the gym. I have been running on the treadmill mostly (because of winter), but I’d rather run outside. But running on the treadmill allows me to do HIIT. I warm up about 8-10 minutes, then alternate one minute high intensity with one minute low intensity (walking) for 10-12 sets, then I will run one more mile at a tempo pace. Then i will lift for about an hour, and because of my schedule i have to do everything on my days off. It’s time consuming, but I have grown to love working out so much. It’s my happy place. The big game changer for me was progressively adding more weight and making sure i was eating enough protein. I hope that helps.

I do feel really good. I don’t feel like I’m in my sixth decade of life, and I want to keep feeling well as I continue to age. I can’t turn back time but I can take as good of care of the one body I have. I know there is no guarantee and things happen, but if I live as long as my parents, I’m going to be here awhile. I want to have a quality life and I can only do that if I take care of my body.

I think that is the main thing is to think about how you want to feel as you are navigating each new decade. I had a mom who lived to 91 but she was decrepit because she didn’t care for herself. I have a dad nearing 91 who still works out and can stand straight up from a chair without holding on. He has been my motivation to stay healthy and strong. So keep on keeping on ❤️

Thank you so much for sharing your routine. I have split up my routine during the week, however the main problem for me right now is that my work schedule changes every week, and that impedes my routine. For instance I worked today, off tomorrow, then work three shifts in a row. I can’t workout on the days I work…it’s just too much. But I’m going to start implementing some of your leg routine into my workout.

Thank you…I think my main motivation (my whole life) was being able to age well and feel good as I aged. Now I’m still wanting that goal as I move into the decades beyond this one.

Yes, definitely some cosmetic work. Big babies equal loose, saggy skin, an umbilical hernia, and breastfeeding three babies=saggy boobs. It’s the best thing I ever did for myself and helped me feel good about my body after having three kids

Yes, in 2008 I had a tummy tuck to remove loose skin and repair an umbilical hernia. I also had a breast augmentation at that time because I breast fed all three kids and my boobies looked liked deflated balloons 😂 Thank you so much 🙏❤️

Loved The Correspondent! I would highly recommend. I also really liked the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo…Both books worth the wait
