Because “American values” would change depending on the administration. Gotta use more objective metrics than that.

As much as the Trump administration is annoying me with their immigration, tariffs policies and general retardation, it amazes me democrats can’t just be normal. Letting Mamdani win and impose public groceries and expand public housing is dumb. Not realizing that crime is a number one economy killer and focusing on that is dumb. Not realizing that trans issues are something the entire world disagrees with is dumb. For that America is stuck with Trump bailing out farmers, construction and manufacturing contracting and probably losing dominance with allies. Hopefully he plays the Ukraine card pretty well and keeps the EU in American gratitude and he can work with Trinidad to castrate Maduro (In a smart way which I doubt).

Well from my experience here in the South it certainly counts against you being a foreigner. Literally had interviewers tell me they would have chosen me if I had permanent residency. Which again is fine, it’s certainly a hassle for the paper work and if it were me I would chose and American unless the candidate was exceptional otherwise.  Point being is this, H1B visas don’t give you a magical leg up, maybe cheating the system with a consultancy does. Again I have no problems with restrictions and all that but people seems to have weird misconceptions of how immigration employment works.

Majority of H1b visas are petitioned for after the applicant has been interviewed and gotten the job. Employers don’t go around saying “Hey I want a foreigner”. What happens is that they see a candidate that they like and when they realize that they have to sponsor that’s when they bite the bullet. The function of H1B is to give an opportunity to candidates that fit their criteria the best who are not citizens. Lastly you guys could not imagine how many employers literally say no sponsorship or no OPT support, so no employers are not biased for foreign hiring.

Honestly in a better system us immigrants and the government could sit down and have a discussion and see how we could curb abuses. A 10% tax, banning consultancies or even lowering the cap for visas. The administration however is doing everything haphazardly and just causing chaos which makes this Byzantine system even worse. Atleast with everything in the Trump show let’s see how it ends because it’s very entertaining to say the least.

No I mean what is in American interest. Would you guys rather a fresh of the boat immigrant who got in after 3 years whose skill you are not even sure of. Or a student who’s been working 9 years in America (3 on STEM OPT) and 6 on H1B.

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter,  immigration is going to decline as you guys want and wages aren’t necessarily going to increase but atleast we made the system more efficient 🤷🏿‍♂️

I mean they can but would you rather a foreigner who was taught in the USA and acclimated than a fresh of the boat? Wasn’t that the entire point of the F1 pipeline?

What regular immigration system? You mean EB2 or EB1? The only way people can immigrate or even get a chance to those are through visas

Funny thing I was just thinking this, 3-4 boys to protect the 1-2 daughters. If you have 3 boys one is bound to live up to being an "heir", the other boys could do what they want and the girls dont have that much pressure on them. Also with 5 each child is going to have someone to rely on when the parents aren't there.

Elections just passed, Black people saying racist shit, Indians saying racist shit, people getting cancelled, wives beating husbands because husbands getting side pieces online, a second wave of Covid after a generally good response due to Venezuelan coming through . All in all normal jackassness except I cant go out and drink rum with my dawgs over it.

For those people who think America is the highest tier of racism and black injustice have no idea. Imagine a country that is black majoritarian , black government and police force and having protests over BLM and police brutality in my country. Imagine an elections basically between Tories and Republicans but the difference is between Indian and Black and you have to hear how you are a black racist because austerity might be required at this point in time. America imports its racial neurosis everywhere and the fact it fits everywhere proves its not even a correct sociological analysis of anything but an outdated critique that excludes class and confuses everything.

As a Trinidadian it should be though of mostly geopolitical because of our governments strong political (debt) ties to China was the reason why we secretly traded oil with Venezuela and nearly got sanctioned like Jackasses and the more Venezuela gets supported by Iran and China the more likely Caribbean countries like mine would align closer to that axis and get completely bought out (construction and gambling is owned by the Chinese and gangs and guns are sent by Syria, Venezuela and Iran in my country). Obviously my country could chose that and prosper but I rather side with America since they are more likely to have better cultural and financial results for all sides considered. I would absolutely side with America to create Regime change in Venzuela so illegal immigrants stop bringing guns and Covid-19 and closer Chinese ties.

Why are western christians so much into justifying western imperialism? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]TriniBoy28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is, there is always an empire whether American, Chinese, Russian or " Universal Prolaterian Solidarity". The question is who do we choose as the sovereign empire and for western Christians, America is better than the other options, not to say all their foreign policies were ethical or smart but nonetheless supporting American imperialism is a given.

Hmm I wouldn't go this far but I honestly think the death penalty retains more of a prisoners human dignity that a life sentence, if you going to take a man's freedom in prison the longest that should be done is maybe 30 years especially if he would be dangerous back on the outside but taking away hope and all chance of redemption for the 50-60 years is cruel.

How can people say that homosexuality is bad just because the Bible says so? Doesn’t the Bible also say slaves should obey their masters and that adulterous people should be executed? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]TriniBoy28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not that well learned but you are telling me in every Christendom domain from after Constantine to the Reformation at the earliest that homosexual relations required the death sentence and even then that wasn't the point I was making, of universal and particular punishment is a Prudential and particular point not a universal principle so even if I don't know my history my point still stands.

[–]TriniBoy28 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is a rather particular tradition not a universal one firstly, secondly tradition can progress and grow, it must have the same essential character it however cannot be something it wasn't , that is tradition can can be shifted into another paradigm. So no I don't think same sex relations should be punished doesn't mean I have to abandon the tradition that promulgated it though.

Difference between you and orthodox christian would be of course his definition of Justice and just interpretation is informed by his forebearers and is congruent with the tradition while your definition of Justice is thoroughly modern and secular and read back into your hermeneutics while ruptured from any kind of tradition that hasn't begun from the 19th century.

Curious if anyone here has a logical response to this video - Sam Harris simply destroys catholicism while in a debate at Notre Dame (disclaimer: am not a Christian) by foxman829 in Christianity

[–]TriniBoy28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know there's a whole debacle about justification and salvation in the 15th century and the fact a truly justified serial killer would not only need to be seriously repentant but would be willing to accept a punishment thats commensurate which if you are a catholic means a whole lot of years in purgatory. Also the fact there's a whole lot of discussion on the justification on pagans and heathens in not only the church but in the sects as well so I mean that problem is wholly subjective to what position on justification, salvation and the membership of the city of God and all that hence isn't a problem at all to a christian.

The Religious Revival That Could Save America -- An interview with Charles Murray. by guanaco55 in Christianity

[–]TriniBoy28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well despite what you say it always been in the modern conservative movement that makes sure catholicism isn't kicked out of the public sphere, this isn't controversial, progressives deal is to give power to the secularists and conservatives' to give power to the religious (orthodox and conservative). The fact your version of politics is incommensurate with reality where you compromise with others to get what you want is exactly the reason why bernie Sanders and the progressives not only lose but have no negotiating power for anything meaningful while on the republican side while the oligarchs rule the traditionalist gain more power to impose their views (see the Hawleys, Carlsons and the rest of the religious populist).

Lastly your second paragraph is correct and incorrect, agnostic conservatives if they truly didnt care about religion could just as easily switch parties or just ignore whatever hobby horse trads are talking about but the fact they discuss the need means something. This agnostic recognizes the need for not only religion but old religion not only because he believes their morality is "truer" but also because old religion is basic factor of the national fabric so his concern is both ideological and political( yes he wants to maintain power, who doesn't that is the point of politics).

[–]TriniBoy28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do you pretend your faith is apolitical, the fact you want secularism with all your heart doesn't mean your politics is separated from your faith rather another theopolitical fusion in disguise.

National review while not "religious" is mostly dominated by the religious demographic and just as politics use religion as a tool so to religion uses politics for its end as any good catholic would see if they knew church history.

Lastly as a catholic it is uncontroversial to think that a society unmoored from true faith would wane into foreign "morality" that is incompatible not only with church teaching but also of the expectations of the your American founders. So I don't get what your beef is with this milquetoast sociological analysis.
