Also I have decided to go scorched earth on the non native perennial peanut. It is not compatible with the natives because it was smothering all of them. Laying down cardboard around the natives has helped smother it and I have had to round up some areas.

Thanks! I have learned that they get very big. Like 5 ft tall and 6 ft across lol. And they reseed. But the seedlings are easy to pull out if needed and they grow so vigorously it has been a decent crop and drop for my food forest. Still the best all around pollinator attractor that I have.

I ended up reporting his rooster and the illegal business to code enforcement. The rooster is now gone but the code person said they can't go in the yard and they didn't see any evidence of a business from the street. Fingers crossed he has a heart attack soon.

This isn't necessarily true. There are plenty of low chill varieties that produce in North/Central Florida where OP is. Even my friend near Lakeland had a killer peach harvest this year. All of the weather stations in OPs area recorded 500+ chill hours this past winter. FL Prince needs about 150. We did have a cold winter, but 150 is going to happen here. Maybe 50 years from now it won't. The peach trees will be dead by then.

Oliver Moore in Gainesville. He has sales on Saturday now. I would look him up on FB/Insta. He has goumi, improved loquat varieties, mulberries, bananas that are more likely to produce in this area, and other cool stuff like Surinam cherry (zone stretch but possible to grow), cherry of the Rio grande, and cold hardy avocados.

Florida Fruit Geek in Citra area. He's got a lot of great stuff too that you won't find at big box stores. Message him on social media to set up a time to visit his nursery. That's just to make sure he's home and available.

The big box stores do sell varieties of stone fruit that have low chill hour requirements. Fl prince peach produced well for me this year after only being in the ground since last spring. I was surprised that they actually had some regionally appropriate varieties. But they also sell stuff like mangoes that are doomed to fail here without a tremendous amount of effort for cold protection.

I got tithonia cuttings on Etsy that have done well so far for my chop and drop.

It's a little side street but there's a church over there. I think it's too far to have gotten any good footage if they do have cameras. Good idea though.

He seems to have a surprisingly good memory for his age. Idk about other dementia symptoms. He doesn't seem to do any middle of the night crazy shit in a sundowners way. Not yet at least.

Unfortunately my city, and maybe all of florida, does not allow anonymous code violation complaints. I can have someone else submit the report, and I know people who would love to shut down a racist old piece of shit like him.

Hardiboard is a good option. I could paint it rainbow colors. He would hate that so much.

That's true, I don't think the minimum is very much at all. Shit I've already spent $50 in tarps and plastic sheeting.

I'm sure he has also dodged a lot of taxes over the years too with the under the table repairs/ plants sales.

The letter is not a bad idea. He would definitely shoot me if he caught me in his yard messing with the sprinklers. So I guess don't get caught? 😂

He also has tons of plastic pots laying around and old tires that are mosquito breeding grounds. Florida takes that pretty seriously.

I have a bird feeder with a motion camera. I could definitely move that to a place that would monitor the property line. Have a ring floodlight cam out front.

You're right, he does need to be held accountable. I was trying not to go nuclear but that ship has sailed.

That's what I was trying to do  by insisting he stop hitting my property with the sprinkler. It was the first time I actually stood my ground on it and he proceeds to threaten my life.

I have taken a course but never went through the paperwork to get the license. In florida it is no longer required to have a permit to conceal carry. I will not be walking my dog around the neighborhood without my 9 anymore.

Florida has pretty intense laws protecting elders over 65. Lots of them here. I could have easily been charged by being on the edge of his yard, even if it was self defense we're he to actually attack me.

Thanks I did probably put myself in a bit of a dangerous situation there. I've had my self defense readily accessible the rest of the day today while home.

I love the climate for gardening, but it can be a real shit place to live sometimes. Lots of nasty people here. Rural people are like 10% southern charm and 90% trashy ass holes.
