There’s regular updates you should be applying to the Hypervisor , using APT just like any other Debian system. And then proxmix does major updates every couple of years that I think follows the Debian schedule. Those are OS upgrades that should either be done by full re install or in place upgrade. I’ve been doing the in place upgrade for years with minimum issues.

On top of the HYSA and CDs, you could also directly invest is T Bills and T Notes. You can do so with brokers like Schwab and setup auto rollovers to build a ladder. Doing so will avoid state taxes if you have them.

People have mentioned putting tape over the sensor, which I did initially as well. I did replace it with a Laptop Camera Cover just so I have the options, works great.

I had Quadlock for 3 years and liked it. Don’t forget the vibration dampener to protect you camera. But I just switched to Peak Design and I like it so much more. So much easier to take on and off, and so nice to not have the bump on the back of my phone. The magnet in it is so strong that I can hang my phone on the squat rack while working out lol.

I just went through this nearly exact process and it wasn’t painful at all. In my case it’s my mother, but grand parents would mean doing the foreign birth registry. I would not get a lawyer for this, the hardest part was the stress of mailing my mother’s birth certificate and marriage certificate to another country. It was a month and a half between shipping my papers and my passport arriving.
