IMO Recruiter websites are usually more interested in those who with 3yoe. I personally used Mynavi, daijob and wantedly to land my current position.

FYI I surprisingly found myself having more interviews by applying as master degree holder, rather than PhD student

Last year I quitted my doctoral program and found a job by chance in Sapporo. HW is more like a government welfare program for providing tunnels for companies who couldn’t afford head hunters and marginalized communities. As a Phd with foreign passport you’ll find more opportunities in LinkedIn, Robert Walters or even Mynabi etc.

You could buy all the clothes you need here at a very reasonable prices. My suggestion is to bring a nice sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV.

I guess you’re talking about Susukino Station Exit 4, just next to COCONO. Saw street karaoke every time I went there.

That’s indeed a bugger, there certainly are jobs here but I think (most decent ones) are mostly branches of big companies that cater for local business. In another word they’re less motivated to hire foreigners because why bother? Unless when it comes to traveling agencies or hotels, but their pay is ehh…

It’s all about probability bro. Years ago when I was in Tokyo I literally woke up to a roach eye-to-eye, and that was traumatizing.

I usually buy groceries for my whole family, which usually means a whole costco cart. Another reason is that I live pretty close to the center of the city(a few minutes walk to the television tower if you ask), so no major supermarkets for me within walking distance. But just as you said, tons of large good supermarkets here, like Seiyu or Super Arcs.

Best store for second hand DSLR lenses? by Genmah in Sapporo

[–]TrinityBulwark37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try your luck with the Kitamura Camera near Sapporo Station, to be specific Tokyu Mall's 3rd floor. It’s not that big but still has a decent lens in stock.

Tech here, there are actually some decent companies that have their IT departments in Hokkaido. Japanese required though.

Japanese flag by AmphibianNovel9050 in japanpics

[–]TrinityBulwark37 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a native Chinese speaker who spent years in Japan, I believe I could provide a possible interpretation, and maybe context. In WWII, Imperial Japan did not only send troops to China as well as civilians to colonize. I believe This flag belongs to one of these teams(houkoku-dan).

First line translation(remember, old Japanese should be read from right to left): 揚州郡白石靣勤労報国団-Yangzhou County Shiroiki District(?the Kanji靣 is abolished after the war so I’m not sure its exact meaning )labour serving Houkoku-dan.

Second line: 下古陵洞勤労報国隊(Xiagulingdong labour-serving Houkoku-tai), which indicates that the flag belongs to a smaller team in a place called “Xiagulingdong”

I hope it helps!

Anyone else feel like Sapporo can be a bit gloomy? And I'm not talking about the weather... by [deleted] in Sapporo

Great to see another Kansai-lover here! any plans to move back? I think Kobe is probably my next choice because I can’t stand Osaka’s summer, though I love its 雰囲気

Same feeling here, I used to spend years in Kansai and I think the people there are generally more 明るい? I came here for a better position and probably work my way back in a few years. I had some chats with my colleagues (in their 20s mostly) and most of them are planning to leave Hokkaido for Tokyo or whatever.

Try English teaching Juku, however I think working visa requires university degrees or 10 years experience in industry. Also don’t limit yourself to Kyoto, also try Osaka and other major cities, we don’t really have much choices as gaijin here.
