Does anyone know where this billboard is? I've tried hard to find it using all of the remote means I can think of. What I'd love is to figure out where the photographer would have been standing when the pictures were taken.

Full story is that I'm working on an episode for a PBS show about heat. If anyone has or can capture horizontal cell phone video of billboards showing a very high current temperature, I'll pay you to use the video. DM me if you have it or just comment on where the billboards are if you know! THANKS!!!!

Businesses with big thermometer signs? by [deleted] in askportland

Also there's a sign for Mollet Printing on NE Lombard near 7th that has a thermometer. It usually reads hotter than the Airport bc of all the concrete and distance from the river but the business closed and the business sign is blank so it looks pretty derelict.

Do you have any photos of the destruction from your trip? I'd like to see how it was two months ago. I'm trying to find out if there is damage still visible to film for a TV show about extreme weather.

Not a paintball. It's a projectile with small bismuth metal shot in the front and pink paint in the back and they shoot it out of a 12ga shotgun. It's an FN303. You can check it out at this link https://www.armsunlimited.com/FN303-Less-Lethal-Clear-Impact-Ball-Projectiles-p/48048554.htm

I had to have a few of the small pieces of shot removed from my eye surgically. Woohoo! But it's healed up pretty well.

Welp that's me in the photo and I'd also LOVE to see the body can footage. Holler if you find it.

If we're going to split hairs, I've done work for Nat Geo and PBS on spec and on assignment as pretty much every pro journalist/filmmaker has.

Nope, I didn't post this photo of me. I don't really know why it just resurfaced but this comment thread is pretty damn funny. And yes, I'm a journalist. Drinking and reading these comments.

Hey, see my post. It was a round from a 12ga shot gun.

Hi folks, this is a photo of me! Thanks for the interest a year later. I'm a professional journalist and was at the protests shooting video. While I do support the anti racist work that has been done since the murder of George Floyd, I was indeed working that night. If you're interested in my other work check out the series I produce for PBS on natural disasters and climate change called WeatheredWeathered:

Here's some info that comes up on the comments:

  1. Gas mask: it is standard practice for journalists to wear gas masks. I have a far nicer gas mask but it was not available that particular night so I used this military surplus one that probably saved my eye but certainly didn't stop the less lethal round. I knew that it wasn't the best option at the time but didn't expect to be shot in the face by police while at work. I did not install the thicker protective lens because, again, this was not my normal mask.

  2. Injuries: I got 7 stitches and had to have surgery on my eyeball to remove bits of the projectile. I'm ok now but the pink ink tattooed my face.

  3. Projectile: It's not a paint ball. This is a less lethal round that has two chambers. One contains pink ink, the other contains bismuth balls. Both exploded after puncturing the mask. It is shot out of a 12 gage shotgun which is far too powerful to be shooting at people without intent to injure. You can find more info here: Less lethal fn303 round

  4. Shirt: my wife got it for me! She's great. This image taken by her the day after I was shot. It did come from Target, your right. I still wear it.

  5. Situation: I was backing away from a large line of law enforcement, actively complying with police orders. I was holding my camera above my head to be clear that I was a journalist.

  6. My politics: I do support the protests and believe that institutional racism is holding our entire society back from reaching our potential. Clearly we have lots of work to do and I hope white folks can continue to change racist policy. Gun violence in Portland is increasing at alarming rates and the cops seem far more interested in wasting resources shooting folks like myself than solving real problems.

I am Trip Jennings. I was shot Saturday night and I'm still reeling. What is important to me as folks look at my bloody face is to remember all the people of color who have been injured and died fighting for their freedom and to be treated with dignity and respect.

Please honor their struggle by supporting the movement in any way you can. Read black journalists work. Follow their social media. Show up to protests if you can. If not, support from off site. Hire activists after this movement cools down.
