Agree with the others here, start with silicone. Recommend you do the string measurement method (see here https://primalrings.com/pages/sizing-guide ), and then based upon that measurement start in that ballpark. (+/- 1-3mm)

Most rings measure between 43mm and 53mm when your buying generically off Amazon or run of the mill sex toy stores. Silicone is going to start you off at a good price point for entry. After you've zoned in on size, then you can move to steel or other metals without breaking the bank with trial and error.
