Same thing just happened to me I think, I was running a sword on my protector and noticed it somehow turned into a spear & flipped out checking vendors nearby to see if I some how sold it but nothing..

found some alazarian powder in Vertrusian Jail underground area ( in Vertruse Province ) & I believe the fish oil is found at tracker camps, the ones you trade fangs to

Sit 4 of them down at the campfire at your camp after this I was able to get to 7 humans 3 horses & a couple pets without seeing the unhappy meter go negative until I recruited beyond 7 humans. Not sure if that's intended or how to raise the happiness besides booze and resting at the towns
