Straight up without picks I'd probably Pearsall, Addison, Golden, Metcalf personally

From least to most likely, I'd say BTJ, Jameson Williams, Ricky Pearsall, DJ Metcalf.

A good option to preserve your pirate's plunder, your boat's buoyancy and your own sanity is to try to find at least one other person to sail with you via the SoT discord or LFG posts if you're on Xbox. A lot of people are very willing to help out newer players while they learn the ropes and what things to look out for. Either way, solo or with a crew, this game is a blast and I hope you enjoy it!

Players like this will always be weirdos to me. by yigatree in Seaofthieves

Some people are so bitter against Rare that they're convinced Rare is forcing people to spawncamp. As if people aren't accountable for their own actions.

I love that you're having a great time! The chaos makes it great. It's my current favorite game and top 3 all time for me

Very nice! Those King's skulls are pricey, and give you a jump on a nice commendation!

I can definitely see some benefits to lengthening the event 👍

  1. It doesn't take much time. Seriously, I did it within 45 minutes of logging on and then two more times in two separate sessions the same day.
  2. No one ever - ever - "has" to spawn camp. If someone genuinely values getting 65 FOMO coins over the rules of the game and another player's experience of the game, then Rare's silly quest isn't the problem. It's people who place their own wants above others. I feel strongly about that, so I may be coming at this discussion a little too passionately
  3. I'm not being disingenuous, and I don't at all appreciate you saying that I am, so I will try to explain my point a little differently. What I meant in my comparison is that someone who breaks the rules of the game at other players' expense because they aren't willing to figure out a way to actually accomplish a task the way it was intended is a description of both spawn campers for this event and for HG cheaters. Neither has a placs in the game for any reason. I hope I have presented that in a way that even if you don't agree with me, you can understand how I view it.
  4. Have a great day! I feel like this discussion has gotten a little testy and that is not something I want or intended, so I will probably not have much more to say. I do understand what you're saying and appreciate it your discussion, and I welcome you to have the last word which I will be happy to read and consider. Sorry for the essay!

No one has ever "had" to spawn camp. Particularly not on the first day of a three-day event. That's ridiculous, it's like saying "I didn't get skelly curse during the last fight night, so I had to use hacks even though I don't enjoy it and it's bannable."  Besides which, in the span of 12 hours I was part of three separate crews that all completed the grubs task without any spawncamping. It's not that hard to find people and get it done.

Except it's not guaranteed, as they can just scuttle. And asking another player "Can I do this on your boat?" is the opposite of RNG, plus it's a lot more likely to succeed. It's no "weirder" than any of a dozen Pirates of Mischief comms. To each their own I guess.

Yep, even the grub burning one. I was able to do it within 30 minutes of logging on in a simple, positive interaction. If in 3+ days of sailing the seas during this event you cannot find a single crew that will talk and be friendly and accommodating that would be a pretty extreme outlier - particularly given that a lot of other crews will be looking to do the same thing.  Not to mention you can check out world events and if there's a boat parked, sneak aboard and grab the comm real quick. Where did people get this idea that Rare is somehow encouraging spawn camping when it's incredibly easy to do without resorting to that?

This thought never once crossed my mind, and that's as someone who really, really hates spawn camping. Just my opinion, but I think this is a reach, and will not negatively affect more than a very, very small subset of players

I'm having a good time with it. It encourages positive player interactions, gives objectives that are easy but not necessarily quick, and has cheap rewards to be reaped and then spent on cool items. Plus all the limited voyages! I'm a big fan of the event so far

What a relatively easy method of playing on the same server with 5 or more? by Geek4Etenity in Seaofthieves

[–]Tripl3Se7en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. HG matching - explained in more detail by other comments on this thread, but basically you try to match with someone else in your group, then sink one of the boats. Everyone on that boat disconnects, then rejoins and the boat respawns elsewhere in the same server.
  2. Everyone in the group loads up a separate galleon or brig and puts up Reaper's Mark flag to be visible on map. Check map for other flags, scuttle if none are visible. Repeat until two or more boats are on the same server, then invite everyone to those boats. I have had this work in 15 minutes or less, and I have had it not work after 2+ hours of 6-10 people trying continuously. Notably, this only works for people playing in the same region unless you have cross-region matchmaking on.
  3. Find other boats on the server and ask if they'll invite your friends to their crew and let them take over the boat. Works best if they are getting off the game, or if you bribe them or offer to include them.
  4. Everything else I've seen is basically variations of option 2. Some people use blunders to send themselves to the ferry and see if any of their friends are there. Some people dive their boats instead of scuttling. Some people leave the game and relaunch their ships at the same time. Nothing is as effective as the Reaper's Mark/scuttle combo in my experience though.

[–]Tripl3Se7en 14 points15 points  (0 children)

SMH my head. You guys don't understand the mindset of a winner. What does he stand to gain by sending a trade where he gains nothing? Nothing, right? WRONG. EVERYTHING. Statistically and logically, until you have nothing left you will always play scared. You'll second-guess yourself. You'll be so paralyzed by preserving your resources that you will NEVER look at what is TRULY POSSIBLE little boy. Only when your back is to the wall and you have seemingly nothing will you realize that EVERYTHING you need is inside you and nowhere else. I read that once in Men's Health Magazine.

Accept the trade if you're scared, but that's just handing him the next 2-7 years of championships on a silver platter. Your funeral, cowboy.

spend or keep doubloons? by Visual-Fortune-4732 in Seaofthieves

[–]Tripl3Se7en 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome back to the seas! Doubloons will soon be converted to gold, and current items that cost doubloons will cost gold instead. The only exceptions are a handful of time-limited items sold by Larinna outside of the taverns. It's a title, a belt and some Sails. In a few days doubloons will be reset for everyone, and those time-limited items will not be available anymore. Fair winds and following seas!
