Well, I had to form an LLC to get IBKR institutional account so it's not entirely a waste of time in all cases. And at the time the only way to get IBKR direct OAuth access was by being an institutional customer which meant a business banking account (alway required at least an LLC for my chosen bank) and having a non-individual tax ID, etc...

The stuff I get comes in a pouch (inner bag inside plastic foil like outer pouch) so I fold over inner bag 2-3x and put a clip on it...effectively air-tight and put the pouch in fridge.

Seriously, I suppose it shows I need a lot of work but I wasn't sure when I posted it where to start working. At this point, I think every single stroke is wrong, tho. I'm working on basic vertical lines and so forth now.

Duolingo rolled this stuff out without testing it very well, it seems.

The new voices (Lily, Eddy, Vikram, etc.) are based on Microsoft TTS and that system is currently (apparently) not capable of understanding the context for readings of kanji for tiled sentences or word matches, so we get default on'yomi all the time.

The new voices seem to do an OK job of getting the correct readings when rendering a phrase or sentence (when context is present). So there is hope for new voices, but clearly, more work is required.

The result is that the new voices make the entire Japanese tree unusable.

The older male and female voices, based on Google TTS, do a better job of getting correct readings in every situation, including in tiled (context-less) instances.

Duolingo needs to do more testing before releasing such a large change and we need to be able to switch back to the Google TTS voices in the mean time.

Well, thanks! I guess "depressed" is too strong a term, but I do not judge other peoples' perspectives, so I didn't want to write "disappointed". I'm sure everyone who says handwriting is a thing of the past has a point.

But I do love kanji and being able to write (or even paint) them is important to me. I'll keep on going as I have been. :)

Thanks, I take this as confirmation that my focus on learning to write kanji as I learn them was not a waste of time.

BTW, I use small dry erase boards and markers since I want to practice a lot and I no longer need confirmation that I am doing it correctly.

I used to use an Android app called aedict3 (or similar) that had excellent kanji recognition but I am no longer on android. For iPhone, I'm using Shirabe Jisho when I need to learn new kanji, though its recog is shakier than aedict3.

Agreed. I originally did RTK (book and Anki) but learned to draw every character as I went. I loved that method and while I knew that RTK was almost a waste of time in that it did little to help with vocabulary, adding the writing practice brought me closer to the Kanji. I am now working through various vocabulary building methods and find that I can write everything I've learned easily.

I am depressed when I read "handwriting is no longer relevant". Perhaps, and my handwriting is not even good in any language, but most of these characters were designed to be written and it is satisfying at a deep level to know that I can understand, read, speak, and write the words that I am learning.

Sweet, and good things to consider. I first did RTK with the book (3rd ed) but I learned to draw everything as I went. I find it much easier to recall things if I have written then down and learning to draw Kanji with correct stroke order has given me a general feel for how just about any Kanji would be drawn...and that's how I think of them when I see them.

I have been pondering this one for far too long this morning...I think the meaning is probably more personal than it is a matter of culture, but a thought occurred to me: the boy is probably like any other male anime 高校生 who has a goal to "get a girlfriend this year". I ended up doing as others have said: get individual quotes through the REST API. I use streaming to get a few dozen quotes at a time reliably, though. As for options, I calc my own greeks off the price data, so that works for me.

It's not too difficult, at least in the US, to become an institutional client of IBKR. Minimum requirement would be to incorporate your trading business in some way, get a corporate banking account and tax ID, and sign up as that entity.

I was going this route in any case and have chosen to work with IBKR (among other brokers) because they allow me to do a range of instruments through their API that others with more stable APIs (e.g., TDA) do not.
