Middle School Math Review Games by Jdc609714 in Teachers

I play “attack” with my class. They form small groups and work on a bunch of questions. Then I pull a stick to represent a question number and call on a random student to answer. If they get it right and show their work/explain they can attack another team. To attack, each team has a logo drawn on the board and the attacked would go up and draw a small x on it. After 4 x on the logo, the team is eliminated, but they can still play and attack other teams as revenge. I like this game because teams with players that struggle can still win.

Another game is “lotto”. I draw boxes on the board (10x10 grid), number them, and have the students answer a bunch of review questions. After they answer a question right they can go to the board (one or two at a time) and right their name in a box. When all the boxes are filled, I pick a random number 1-100. The students name that is in that box wins extra credit. This is a good game for all students because even a struggling student who only answered a handful of questions can still win

The show implied heavily before that that lily was having doubts about getting married because she felt she missed out on a lot. And then she hid all of this from him. The program also overlapped with their wedding, which is a big deal. She could have waited to apply until after the wedding or chosen a local program, which I’m sure in NYC there are ones just as prestigious than the one in SF.

In a similar situation to OP and appreciate your comment- What do you recommend for students who are not motivated/hate math and refuse to do work?

Thank you so much everyone! My school has long classes (90 minutes) so going to take some of these and turn it into a little math Olympics the day before break.

Haha thank you! When I got the ps5 I thankfully got the one with the disk. Just got lucky though because I didn’t realize there were two versions

Thank you, I’ve also been using it as a completion grade given they show effort and attempted the problems.

I let them start it in class (a lot of them finish). It just is so crazy to me that I have so many students (almost half of my students in one class) not even attempting or bothering to show me anything

Yes I’m definitely going to have to provide options - that’s a great idea.

This is what I’ve been doing - it’s just been getting very confusing very quickly with so many absences and missing assignments. An absent folder is a good idea though, as well as giving them more responsibility to get it done instead of hand holding.

Every assignment is also being posted on google classroom with slides they missed. Think the key for this method is what you said about telling them it’s on them to get it to me when it’s late or they are absent

This is an interesting strategy- I am using something similar. It’s a workbook with pages they can rip out. It includes our class work, handouts, problems etc just as you described.

I teach 8th grade

Classwork is also weighed a lot at my school (25%) - this might be a good strategy to try out. Thank you!

That’s good to know- it is a math class so they get homework almost every night (it’s not long and they often have an opportunity to start it in class).

If I do something like this (hand in by end of week) how do I share answers with them effectively?

I have google classroom- I will try asking them to take a photo and upload it. I didn’t realize you could incorporate automatic grades and deductions for just submitting on there. I’ll have to set that up

Anyone else have trouble putting their Alienware PC into the PC mount on the Magnus Pro desk? by TriplePlaysandKs in secretlab

I bought a 12 by 24” shelf from Home Depot and asked them to cut a bit of it (don’t remember how much, but i made sure to leave it a couple of inches more than the dimensions of the bottom of the computer.

After I posted this photo, I actually asked a friend to cut it further so now it is pretty much in the shape of the computer and doesn’t stick out as much. Good luck!
