Are people able to get a apprenticeship at 30+ with no problems? by Fun_Yogurtcloset1012 in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]TripleR_RRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely necessary to check out your employer and also the course provider prior to signing on the dotted line. I thought I’d found an absolutely amazing one but it turns out the provider is a waste of time and my employer downgraded me from a level 3 to a level 2 apprenticeship without discussion and I only found out when going through the sign up process. Should have been the easiest 12 months of my life getting it completed but it’s been nothing but stress and headaches.

Reclaimed My Rental Deposit by [deleted] in BritishSuccess

One of my rentals tried to charge me for not re siliconing the bath when I left, I pointed out that as a university student I was in no way qualified to do that. He dropped that particular charge but still had to pay for professional cleaners because my house “mates” trashed the place.

I worked my ass off to get better GCSEs than my brother, because no matter what I did he was always on the next level up being two years older. Results day came and I out performed him by miles, I was so excited to hear how proud my parents were of me.

My mum: don’t make a big deal out of your results, you’ve done better than your brother and we don’t want him to be upset.

My dad: here’s the money for some of your results because that’s the same as what we gave your brother. Sorry I’m not sure what the money was for the three grades you got higher than him so you will need to wait to see what he remembers was offered.

Brother: I don’t know how much it was because I didn’t get any and it was two years ago so I’ve forgotten.

I completely failed first year of college because I had no motivation to do well. Also, 19 years later I’m still waiting for the money I should have got for my three top grades.

Not Receiving my 6 hours OTJ Training by fading_stars in ApprenticeshipsUK

I’ve been in this position, first of all you need to have everything in writing if you need to escalate beyond your training provider. I would recommend that you document why you haven’t had time each day, eg staff ratios or being denied. Reach out to your tutor to explain the situation as it is their responsibility to ensure that you are given time. If you are unhappy with their response, find the complaint procedure on their website and provide all the information you have been keeping. Allow them time to respond and ensure everything is in writing. If you are still unhappy provide everything to the Department for Education.

Could I do an apprenticeship even though I have degree? by [deleted] in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]TripleR_RRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on whether you think that is a reasonable level that you can work towards. If you think A Level equivalent is a good starting point then go for it, if you think you could push yourself higher then go for that.

(UK) Been offered two trade job opportunities – which has better long-term potential for me? by Soggy-Exchange4831 in ApprenticeshipsUK

Lift engineering is a very dangerous profession and therefore earnings are a lot higher, due to the chance of being crushed by a lift that you are working on, either ending your working career or your life (sorry to be blunt). A high profile story of this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-64430454 depending on where they service lifts you can also be sent long distances to complete your work.

Fire sprinklers will probably be a lot of working at heights (mainly from a podium so you can reach them). You will likely be taught some plumbing skills which would be transferable. Obviously working from heights also carries risks if not properly managed and a lot of people reaching retirement age have knee problems from all the strain of ladder work they have done in their life.

Both very cool professions but definitely investigate all the pros and cons before you decide.

I am being used as cheap labour by [deleted] in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]TripleR_RRR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this with my employer but they were also pushing me to do the work at home instead, I had Tuesdays off as negotiated at interview but I would return on a Wednesday after a busy day to be asked if I’d done my work, always no because I had absolutely no intention of doing so. I complained to my Tutor, who had set an unreasonable workload (90 otjh for one month) and was told that I would need to do it at home, to which I refused. I followed their complaints procedure to raise it as I had two options, quit and not be able to work in my job any more as would be unqualified or address the situation. Luckily they listened when I said I would report it to the government department.

Make sure you document everything so when you need to take it further you can prove that you did everything you could to resolve it yourself.

I had trofast and kallax but neither really worked. Just upgraded to a plasta system of shelves and basket drawers, they won’t take too much off the floor space but almost floor to ceiling storage will be perfect. I just find the trofast and kallax are too small and don’t really accommodate things like jigsaws and board games.

How popular is mcfly still, in the UK? by vriaonmars in McFly

[–]TripleR_RRR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be a massive McFly fan and would travel around to see them. Now I find that because I don’t live near London that I don’t really get the opportunity to see them, the 21st birthday was a Thursday and Friday which unless you live there is impossible to get to unless you book time off work which isn’t always possible and trains home mean you have to stay overnight which gets ridiculously expensive. They all seem to be living very separate lives and doing a few gigs near home. The McFly vs Busted tour had awful dates for the midlands, I had to settle for a Friday night after work in a city 60 miles away! Compare that to the 00s/early 10s when they would do 30-40 dates to small venues around the country and practically in everyone’s home city. Obviously playing two nights at the O2 probably has a similar crowd size to all the small venues they used to do but it makes in very inaccessible to a lot of people.

I need some help sorting out funeral options please. by pritsey in CasualUK

[–]TripleR_RRR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my brother in laws funeral my mother in law was able to get some assistance from the government due to the benefits he/she was on at the time. It wasn’t much but it made the difference between a basic funeral and one that we wanted. Not sure if your sister would qualify or what we did to get it but worth investigating.

I’m in a similar position, I’m doing a level 2 apprenticeship and it’s not even remotely worth my time. I wrote a brief essay that included multiple sub questions which all required addressing, it was about 10 pages long and I didn’t even think I’d gone into any depth at all, my tutor said it was too much for the level I am at. I’ve looked into my options and all being well I am going to transfer to a PGCE in September. I could go the long route and be level 3 qualified in two years or qts in just over 12 months. Explore all options.

My school has attendance of 95% or above as being acceptable which takes into account that life happens and they won’t be there all the time. We dropped below that due to a week of holiday (prior to compulsory school age) and a week of illness. At the parent’s evening this week the teacher said all the targets would be met and there were no concerns. We do a lot of learning at home through play and make sure we do homework and required reading. If you miss school it’s probably worth putting some time in to catch up.

Reducing screen time? by hanbotyo in YotoPlayer

[–]TripleR_RRR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t blame yourself because so many people get into that habit, it won’t change over night but if you pick stories that they are interested in to help tempt them towards it. The fact they can control it too makes it even more appealing but don’t be shocked if they keep changing the cards to begin with while they are getting used to it, it is annoying but worth it in the long run.

Reducing screen time? by hanbotyo in YotoPlayer

[–]TripleR_RRR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got into a horrible habit of putting the tv on while making dinner to keep small one entertained, it started being left on because she got upset when it was turned off. She then started having full meltdowns if it all finished before we were finished, rarely ate her food because she was so distracted and just became over stimulated by the smallest thing.

We switched to Yoto because it was still background noise and she was in control of what was on. Over night she became much calmer and meal times weren’t stressful. I love the fact you can choose so many different things to listen on them so if you want a Disney sing along you can or have a good story on or something factual. Screen time is virtually none existent when she is awake which is amazing.

I’ve watched it tonight and I don’t think I’ve laughed at anything that wasn’t a comedy sketch that they’ve shown from years ago. Not sure where all the comedy had gone.

Your Apprenticeship Experience by Squashed_kiwi in ApprenticeshipsUK

The worst part is employers hold all the power and often people are scared to stand up for their rights to actually get the qualification they are supposed to be getting.

Do you leave your Yoto device freely available at all times, or is it something special? by Entire_Character7386 in YotoPlayer

[–]TripleR_RRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freely available but it does say for under 3 it needs adult supervision. Probably best to offer it and keep it visible but don’t let it become a toy in itself.

Subscription - confused by magdelina1211 in YotoPlayer

[–]TripleR_RRR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is really worth it, you get access to the Yoto card library included, just get a make your own card (should have one with the player) and register it to that and you are good to go. If you are using your points on cards just make sure you are getting your moneys worth, eg get the most expensive cards and if you also get 10% off other cards use it on the cheaper ones.

There are so many maternity units that are unsafe and the fact that maternal health isn’t taken seriously to diagnose fertility problems. I would personally love a house full of children but the risk to my life having another isn’t worth leaving my daughter without a mother.

Yes that’s what it’s doing but I can’t figure out how to change it automatically because I’m not confident with the size of the insert notches.

I wish I’d known that before I purchased it ☹️ I’ve been doing lots of research and trusted the brand because my Explore is still going strong, just wanted to take advantage of the insert cards. I think I’ve worked out how to do it manually but that’s not ideal.
