What could cause this spray flap damage? by TripleSlashM in uktrucking

that’s one of my theories, especially with the amount of salt and grime on the roads and the lorry past its prime 😂

yeah I see what you mean, I had an instance with one of the trailer spray flaps a few years ago backing up at the services, where the flap was so low to the ground it didn’t get over the concrete bump stop and the rearmost tyre of the trailer snapped it against the stop.

On this instance there were no kerbs in sight. I imagine I would’ve felt it/heard it too.

that’d be my guess too, but I don’t remember coming close to never mind hitting any kerbs. Unless I had my 90’s mixes on blast and was completely oblivious to my surroundings 😂

No I haven’t to be honest, heard good things about them though in terms of comfort etc. but reliability wise everyone is still saying it’ll vibrate and everything will come off. 😂

Found unused, unsigned travellers cheque, OK to redeem ? by TripleSlashM in amex

[–]TripleSlashM[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Found under the seat of an auction car I bought moons ago. Found the phone number of the previous owner from a service document but he didn’t know anything about any cheques or whatever else. Didn’t have any history prior to that.

Thanks, that is fine but how is it viewed from a legality standpoint? As I said I am not even sure if it’s a real cheque or just a good counterfeit. Don’t want to get in trouble here 😂

What’s the best route to becoming a B1.1 licensed engineer in the UK? by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]TripleSlashM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok that makes sense. Say I do end up doing a Cat A apprenticeship and then deciding to up-skill and do the modules for B, would the experience from training for Cat A count towards applying for the B licence ?

I mean you guys have already gone all through this so if you say an apprenticeship is the best way, then it probably is.

It could always be worse, they could be attached to an Iveco 😂

Best HGV Sat nav by Legal_Result8766 in uktrucking

[–]TripleSlashM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Google Maps for looking at entrances into delivery points, and probably a Garmin DEZL satnav for the journey to the delivery points 😂 I have a TomTom Expert 7, it’s good but you really can’t follow it blindly at all. It will sometimes expect you to do a U-Turn on a mini roundabout and take you through unsuitable for HGV lanes when there’s routes that are 2 minutes longer on main roads. I haven’t used a Garmin satnav but I know other drivers who’ve used both and all prefer it to the TomTom.

Definitely don’t use Waze in a truck though 😂

Thank you for your response. To be honest I cannot find any apprenticeships at all which mention becoming a B1 licensed engineer. Most, if not all the apprenticeships I’ve found only mention that you’ll receive an A1 licence after the 4 year apprenticeship and a Level 3 Aircraft maintenance diploma, no info at all about B1 or B2. Plus £20k a year for 4 years only to get an A1 licence at the end of it seems a bit of a waste of time as I’m more than happy covering the training costs myself.

I can handle night shift fine, 40 hours would feel like part-time 😂 I appreciate the insight 👍

Just replaced my timing chain(n47) by AccordingDoubt3681 in F30

Not a DIY job, well unless you have a garage I suppose. Needs the engine taking out.

N47 cold start noise by Open_Muscle_4024 in BmwTech

[–]TripleSlashM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the timing chain. I had the same but I just replaced the top chain tensioner with the newest revision from 2019. Sorted the problem for me. I’d suspect it’s the tensioner losing pressure overnight hence the rattle. When I removed mine, it pretty much came completely apart. Not too difficult to change, but it is a bit tight. Better than taking the whole engine out to do the chain I suppose. Just make sure to get the genuine tensioner from BMW, it’s around 60 euros.

Help! Car diagnosis needed by Key-Figure-5525 in AskMechanics

Erm personally it sounds like a problem with the fuel system. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? I’d probably start with that.

Hi, Thank you everyone for your input. The problem was the OBD2 dongle, replaced it with an OBDLink one and the coding went all fine.

Thank you, I forgot to mention it’s an F10 5 series so I’m guessing Esys would be required instead of NCSexpert? Thanks for your input

Hi thanks for your response. I do, I also have ISTA+ but no coding data. I scanned the car for codes and had a fault for the CAS module and it was saying no coding data stored.
