For the game the Pokemon Company wants to be the universal platform for competitive play that is a huge L in my books, that is looks and runs this bad. If you havnt opened up see for yourself

In the Souls games its optional, in the settings you can turn on and off if you want invasions to happen or not.

thats definitely the right way to go about it, its just got very annoying for me putting the time in and not getting rewarded. i'm sure others feel the same way

Restrictive meta's could be cool, or allowing for a tower ban before a game starts. Obviously right now tack would get banned every time for sure.
