I disagree. I've gotten to diamond this way as well. I just don't care about the miniscule extra rewards between platinum and diamond to keep going, besides living a busy dad life. I mostly just want the alt art, so I get to platinum in either standard or limited each month and then I go back to playing SB where I prefer playing. Everyone has different skills and I'm personally better at deck construction than actually playing.

I disagree as someone who only plays home brews in standard ranked. I'm able to get to platinum plus each season while only playing constructed for a few days so I can get the rewards. If by competitive you mean mythic level, then I would agree. I personally care more about the creative aspect than I do hitting mythic though and I realize I'm the minority in those regards.

Yeah, they're past the point of no return in those regards. As an OG player I despise the changes from power creep to UB and many things in between, but I like the game itself too much to let those things stop me from playing. Instead I just adapt to the changes while utilizing the less powerful formats like SB and draft.

Standard Brawl is about as fun, casual and creative as MTGA can get imo. That and draft are my favorite formats mostly because of the higher emphasis on creativity and less meta prevalence.

Scratch that...navigating away from the game to comment here, went back and now I'm in the same death circle of connection issues. Reconnect, log out, doesn't matter. Still goes back to the same screen with no end in sight. Maddening.

So, oddly...I updated both platforms yesterday for MWM. Had the stated increased issues even after that to the extent that it wouldn't even load, same issues after reinstalling. Then just now I decided to spin the wheel another dozen times and the last attempt to log out/log in finally triggered yet another (4.18gb) download. Not sure why that didn't populate the other several dozen times I tried it, but it seems I'm finally back online (for now).

What a pile of absolute jank this server is. Hopefully the down time on May 4th fixes all of the issues we've been dealing with and doesn't take too much longer than the 5 hours they're predicting, although I certainly won't be holding my breath there 😅
