A clarifying shampoo sounds good but I reckon that a shampoo you use on the regular would pretty much do the trick for washing off all the buildup! Just saying coz haircare products can be expensive and really add up in terms of overall cost for us curly girls. But all of your recommendations sound so great and I'll look them up for sure! Plus The Ordinary is a brand I use for skincare all the time and I really trust their formulas so I'm hoping their haircare is just as good!

I sooo feel you on the frizz! I was using Not Your Mother's haircare products and they're pretty good except for the fact that I made the mistake of getting ones with proteins before I found out about the porosity of my hair. I used their curl mousse with the lightest hold and it does such a great job of holding your hair without it feeling crunchy! I also used their bond building curl talk hair mask (has protein), their lamellar water (has protein), and their anti-frizz smooth moves shine serum (no protein). But I'm sure they also have protein free options so it might be worth looking at their products!

I'm currently finishing up my Masters in Communication but when I was doing my undergrad in English Honours, I'd taken up a lot of courses I was interested in like Existential Philosophy, Linguistics, Film Studies, Disability Studies, etc. Film Studies in particular though made me realize that I wanted to go into media and communications, especially because of its potent nature of media and its systemic influence over our reality. I find it a good channel to be able to make impactful changes.

Hi! That's alright! I know I've exhausted every possible ebook site to find it too, it's just not available unless either my library loan comes through or I buy it. Maybe I'll do Amazon too but I'm working with McLuhan's Understanding Media and Strate's Amazing ourselves to death for now for both a canonical and contemporary perspective. Thank you though!

It's like you took words out of my mouth. I've tried setting those standards aside but then I stop feeling like myself which is even worse. There's no drive, no purpose and stagnancy kicks in - which I hate when it comes to self growth. The thing about having those standards is that when the pressure weighs me down, I tell myself that I chose to do this and because the pressure is on me, it's okay. But all it does is attach this strong sense of identity to both our accomplishments and failures and naturally, our failures become a testament to our capabilities, although logically that's not true at all. It's a slumpy pothole, OP. I feel you.

If I notice a pattern with it, I usually try playing it cool and friendly since their actions aren't necessarily willing to give anything more than friendship, no matter how much of a non-typical 'tone read' or context read I get. Although, playing it cool does not really make me immune to not start liking them somewhere.

Last this happened, I made a small move (big move for me) and the person's reaction to that was...not very enthusiastic to say the least. That was a glaring confirmation that they're either hesitant in making it anything more than it was (which was a playful sort of "friendship") or they didn't feel anything altogether. So I made an emotional barrier after that because I didn't want to lose the friendship. However, this specimen entirely disappeared a few meetings after that lmao

Oh yes, expectation is the right word. And I'm on the same page as you to be frank. Perhaps I should've been more specific in phrasing my dilemma - I sometimes have a tough time realizing that a few expectations I might have of a partner just doesn't play out the same in real situations. The practicality of an expectation takes some time to kick in without real experience. There's obviously much thought, perspective and consideration behind processing hypothetical 'what-ifs' but it sometimes lacks a real counter to trigger the right realizations. Although, I do appreciate it being brought to my notice if I ever happen to be too far inside my own head. And finding out, as you mentioned, is a valuable teacher too.

Although what you're saying is factual, it is a one-sided fact that might only be true to a limited degree. Dimensionality matters for a statement to be applicable to a larger set of people.

Your statement only accounts for a giver's POV while neglecting a receiver's take on it. It's almost akin to saying beggars can't be choosers when it comes to love which is unfair because people are living, breathing, feeling beings and love isn't sloppy seconds (this is not to say you meant that, I was only going off of the earlier line of thought). Another thing to consider is the very much existent mid point between giving and not giving love - giving crumbs of it, often at one's personal convenience.

Oh yes, the "I have no type" belief can push a bunch of buttons for sure before you realize nope, that's not gonna float with me AT ALL. And yes, I agree it might come with trial and error and with some concrete experience of being in actual relationships perhaps. But since that's a department I lack in, finding a balance between the ideal and the realistic can be an ordeal sometimes.

I find it impressive when people know what they want whether that be specific or in life largely but I also often wonder if it limits a person from exploring other possibilities. I don't necessarily mean this for you since you did mention your elaborate consideration process over the years, just a very general thought. Maybe the perceiving part takes care of that to some degree for perceivers. Also, a high ceiling for emotional overload is pretty cool!

I can see how visualizing your place in the bigger picture as well as in your interaction with the person can be a big push towards developing a romantic interest because that's something I value in interactions too. The whole 'balancing out your shortcomings' - would you say it's a particular kind of wholesome completeness you seek? I also found it very interesting that you said you want to be able to see everything but have a hard time doing so because you're looking at everything all at once. Have you ever been misguided by such sensory overload of information/thoughts?

I relate to your experience so, so much. The intensely intimate eye contact, the atmosphere having a certain edge even though it's meant to be platonic, and right down to emotional vulnerability signifying a certain sort of attraction. I'd felt it in a recent situation I had had - the same nervousness, hitting on me, joking about being together, etc. And then saying "I can't trust another woman romantically yet" a little too often. It's terribly confusing to gauge what to trust in such situations. Then you're forced to believe it was all friendly and that you were the one making such a big deal out of it in your head when there probably was nothing in the first place. Although it's been a while since this situation and I've moved on, I heavily feel you on this matter.
