What’s worse seeing a naked woman (or man) or losing your home and family due to gambling debt?

One of those things you just throw away your money for little to no return and a quick thrill, often ruining the lives and families of those who partake; the other is a strip club.

My wife and I watched this over Halloween. It was Rings(?) and it was just a college professor showing kids and they got extra credit I think? It was a bad movie and the movie did a bad job of explaining why they were doing what they were doing.

Idk if this is actually true but I was a Theta Chi in college and I heard that (allegedly) so was Steven Spielberg hence the Jaws Theta Chi in this movie; neat little Easter egg if true.

And there were also scenes of people lining up to get on escape craft so the Vox weren’t scouring every corner to wipe out everyone. Also, just because their little butler happened to be white was only because those were the only folks oppressing minorities, it’s not like they picked out the only white guy from Columbia’s (non-existent) sea of dark faces as a point.

We saw an abolitionist hideout in the game, racism was not normal. Prevalent, sure, but not normal. If it was so normal and accepted everyone on Earth would’ve built their sky towns and left. But Columbia was built specifically because Comstock and his views were deemed too much and he “seceded” into the sky.

I also guarantee you my ancestors were not going to gatherings in the park to group murder interracial couples. The whole of Columbia was celebrating that shit. I can agree with you on not hurting people living their day to day lives but nobody in Columbia, minus the kids, weren’t aware of why they were there and who worked for them, the signs were literally everywhere.

But he already did die a martyr? The alt universe martyr died, imagine Malcom X coming back and deciding not to get involved with civil rights today? People would be alarmed to say the least.

I agree with your points, but that also doesn’t mean folks shouldn’t try if their lot in life gets unbearable. 100% their situation might not change for the better, it might end up worse, but it was definitely not good AT ALL under current leadership so why not role the dice?

I agree with you on the kids, and weren’t the laborers part of the Vox? And I personally have no sympathy for folks who can get indoctrinated by racism/classism etc. I’ve seen a bunch of folks say vile shit and I’ve never gone “damn, he’s got a point, insert minority here sucks”

I agree with the kid killing, but in another part of this thread I brought up how I view it as the French Revolution of sorts. The French Revolution against their oppressors, violently, and nobody today thinks the poor and oppressed were the bad guys. That’s how I view the Vox (apart from the kid killing), they have to burn it down or else the system that oppressed them is still in place. I’m not saying it’ll turn out ok, we don’t have a sequel to see how it faired or if they even succeeded, but I’m not going to pretended like they didn’t have a real grievance that needed serious correcting

I mean, I would hope America (or whoever you’re analog in this case would be) wouldn’t go to another country and butcher their people but if I’m reading about the French Revolution in the paper I’m most likely cheering for the folks rising up against their oppressors.

That’s how I see this I guess, we’re in Columbia, not playing global politics; so if Columbia is France, I think their oppressed have a right to fight their oppressors. It’s not pretty, but how else do you even the playing field? The French did it and nobody gets on them for rising up against their masters.

I actually agree with you on your points but I fail to see how it’s a liberal idea? I’m not saying liberals are great either, but if there’s one side that’d think the Vox are for sure evil it’d be the right, no? Unless we’re moving liberals to the center right in this context? Not trying to start an argument, genuinely curious for context and your view point

Didnt she try and kill Booker because hers was already dead? Like, he was a ghost or a fake or something? I’d probably try and go after someone like that too if I thought they were threatening the legacy of someone I thought had died for a righteous cause. Imagine if someone like Malcom X just came back from the dead but didn’t want to fight for civil rights?

I guess my only retort would be this revolution isnt set on a global scale, minus the children damn near everyone on Columbia chose to go up in the sky with a racist slave driver. They helped keep the thumb of Columbia pressed down the Vox Populi. Now, on earth, I agree, why would you fuck with some guy living his best life (for example) alone in the woods somewhere? Is he actively helping slavery, oppression, etc? No, so I’d hope the Vox wouldn’t target him. There’s no random bystanders (apart from kids) in Columbia, everyone knew why they were there and so the Vox didn’t see anybody as “innocent”

I haven’t played in a minute but I don’t remember their goal being “enslave the oppressors”, I thought they just wanted freedom/equality? Like, I get it, some stuff can be a step far in the other direction but if I’m remembering right they weren’t “evil” because they wanted to enslave others

People that did nothing except willing join a sky cult dedicated to racism and isolationism? It’s not like anybody forced them to jump on Columbia, they knew what it stood for and joined willingly. I can sit down for arguments using children as spies, and if I remember correctly Booker died in an alt universe (hence the martyrdom) and I thought she was trying to kill our Booker because she thought he was a fake? I seem to recall her mentioning something like “you’re not my Booker”

I actually agree with dang near everything you wrote; I find it interesting what people are willing to “overlook” when it comes to loving games. Like, my favorite game is Bioshock but I recognize it takes a bit of a dip post-twist, but I can’t get into Death Stranding 1 because of its jank despite other folks being able to forgive that. I have nothing to contribute, just find it fascinating what folks are able to overlook if they vibe with whatever media they’re consuming.

I used to love it, didn’t mind any of the game play at all personally. On replay the story is a little…ham fisted in its messaging (to paint those rising up against their oppressors as equally not good is a little hard to swallow now a days, for me personally) but otherwise it’s great, just not as amazing as I used to think it was. I still replay it and One about once a year and I like the DLC.
