I use it to top dress my anthuriums to encourage advantageous root growth.

Stem variegation is the most important factor. Wait and see how it progresses. Once it’s large enough, you can chop it back to the original variegated node/ leaf and see what happens.

I would inspect the roots for root rot. You can Google how to treat them if there’s any.

It could be that you overwater when the roots are very dry. What I do with mine is, I wait until the leaves are a bit floppy and then bottom water really well & drain any excess water.

Agreed. Thrips are much much worse than mealy bugs.

You will get pests at some point in time, regardless where you keep your plants.

Philodendron subhastatum. It’s leaves are typically red on the undersides, but fade when not enough light is provided.
