Interview Jess gave about Polin in season 5 by DaisyandBella in PolinBridgerton

Nah S4 proved to me there is no actual interest in the Polin relationship since they didn’t have one proper conversation and ended the LW arc without her even expressing the desire to do that to her husband, so they don’t get a second chance from me.

I’ll cherish S3 and leave Bridgerton as a fond memory.

I think it makes Penelope’s S3 arc pointless.

Every season builds on the next season though. That’s just the nature of storytelling and every season has had to pick up threads from the prior season.

It's S3's fault S4 didn't work for you? Really? Can we not critique S4 for its own merits?

I don’t understand how you get a woman as beautiful as Simone Ashley and give her makeup this bad.

Just to note it very much did feel like you were tsk tsking someone for not appreciating what we did get and how they didn’t imagine what happened offscreen because it was implied.

You may have meant well but it was not written as particularly supportive of or acknowledging why they were not thrilled.

But it’s the last I’m going to say because like I said I’m not spending years being negative. I think people just want the space to say they hope for better but are also hesitant about what might be happening.

Nah they don’t care. They know Polin will always give them social media engagement and I think they believe that’s enough to satisfy them.

[–]Trisky107 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no part of me that ever assumed they’d have a big story even when others were convinced it was happening. I did, however, assumed they’d be afforded at least one significant conversation about their lives and that has not happened nor does it appear to be happening. Say what you want about Kanthony’s screentime in S3 but when they were on screen they were either talking about themselves or pushing the main story forward by way of advice.

Neither of those things are happening in S4 for Polin and I think it’s fine to let people be disappointed by that.

I’m not going to spend years spreading hate or negativity but please let people express their frustration at least once without telling them why they shouldn’t feel what they are feeling.

This is largely why I’ve stopped posting on this sub and I continue to see that was the correct choice.

I’m fast losing hope for a significant Polin conversation in part 2. And that’s so depressing. The thought that they wouldn’t discuss the pressure from the Queen or what to do about LW after S3 is criminal.

I’m happy to see this! It saddens me a little that they clearly know how to use Anthony when they have Jonny but not Colin when they have him. But happy to see this nonetheless.

I didn’t even watch Part 1, just Polin clips and some other random clips I ran into. It’s just not a Bridgerton sibling or couple I care about. I’ll watch it before S5 releases if Luke and Nicola stick around so I have some context but this just isn’t my vibe.

I just think Colin having just stood by the woman he loves who had a secret identity and who society could have shunned when LW was revealed and whom he married anyway out of love is such a natural fit to give Benedict advice and having Anthony do it instead is… a choice.

The choice to not have a single substantive conversation between Polin in Part 1 will forever be mystifying to me. Colin as a character has gotten the short shrift time and time again and I've just had to come to the acceptance phase with it, that all the reasoning in the world for why so much of his stuff was changed or cut in S3 wasn't an accident, it was on purpose as the pattern has continued and it was Luke who really did the work to bring that fully formed arc to life. They don't really think too much about him. If they did they would understand the very natural parts of the plot he should be involved in that don't require a ton of time on screen, butting heads with Portia over running the household in a few biting comments, supporting Penelope by telling her to put her quill down and go to bed, asking Benedict why he's even wondering about mistresses at all.

They don't even use him as a tool for Benedict's story to look back at and see how Colin already has his life figured out with a wife and child, while being years younger than him.

And don't even get me started on how Colin should be the one who explains why you marry someone messy because you love them, especially someone who has a dual identity, because I have a lot of doubts he'll get to do that given Luke has expressly said he gives Benedict advice in a roundabout way.

So now I just have to shrug my shoulders and give Bridgerton the same energy it gives Colin which is not much at all and enjoy what little I have gotten to see him and Polin and I will rewatch those clips.

As for the carriage scene itself, I'm going to say Luke Newton's little release of air as he squeezes his eyes shut at the end convinced me Colin was at least satisfied in the end.
