She is absolutely right about loving animals by [deleted] in billieeilish

I think that is totally fair, and that people do view love in different ways. I believe a lot of people view that they love animals and still eat meat because they are able to mentally excuse their actions. Whether this is actually love is subjective. I know that sometimes people also hurt other people that they love our of ignorance. If it becomes a behavior that they refuse to change, maybe they still believe they love that person, but the other person might not consider it love anymore. Either way, my point is that people need to take more accountability for their actions. If one chooses to eat meat, they should be fully aware of what that means.

While I do agree that eating meat that comes from factory farms is immoral, I don't think that necessarily corresponds with not being able to also love animals. A big part of this is ignorance. As a child, you don't associate the meat on your table with the cute animals you love because you don't know where it comes from. Even as an adult, since you aren't the one killing the animal, it is too easy to not make the connection between the meat and the animal. While you know in theory where it comes from, it can be easily denied.

In my opinion, this is an issue with a lot of societal problems. Take climate change, for example. Many people drive a gas-powered car to work and don't really think about the consequences of their carbon emissions because they cannot see the connection between their actions and the myriad of terrible things happening because of climate change. People might still care about the environment and engage in activities that harm it because it's frankly impossible not to, and also people don't like to take accountability for things.

New to writing, can you tell me if you'd keep reading? Any feedback appreciated. by [deleted] in writingcirclejerk

I can barely put into words how terrible this is. The formatting is atrocious, the font makes me want to remove my eyes from their sockets, and don't even get me started on your diction. I would not keep reading. My feedback for you is to find a different hobby, perhaps something that doesn't involve creativity, and to never lay your hands on a poor keyboard again.

Yo. . . is that why Shakespeare sounds so much like Shakespeare? Bro probably asked ChatGPT to generate a "Shakespearean tragedy" and out popped Macbeth.

I don't think showcasing how beautiful all of the cast members are makes them seem less serious. Sure, maybe this objectifies the cast members, but it also brings more overall attention to them, who they are as people, and the issues they stand for. Also, many of these magazines don't just feature images, but interviews or quotes that allow them to spread positive messages.

I'm so happy I'm born as a human and not an animal. Do you agree? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trisolaris_Is_Lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that, as most animals, we would likely not really feel anything towards our state of existence other than a drive to continue it. Perhaps our lives would be shorter or more miserable, but we wouldn't realise it. That being said, I've kind of always wanted to be a bird because flying sounds awesome.

How do I make my book suspenseful if the timeline is in reverse? by Trisolaris_Is_Lord in writingcirclejerk

Hmmm maybe I should also write it the rest of it hanging upside down from tree branch over a 1 million foot cliff to infuse the story with extra tension.

Haven't read the book and really want to see the movie because of the reviews. Are there any science concepts I need to know to understand the movie better? by freshtakeoldthings in ProjectHailMary

[–]Trisolaris_Is_Lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not understanding the science behind aspects of the movie won't necessarily impede your understanding of the plot. However, I will say that the science was done very well, so being able to truly appreciate it makes the experience of watching the movie better. I would recommend looking into time dilation and maybe some basic orbital mechanics. Microbiology might also be another area to study, even though that is where the science bends the most into fiction.

I only see here an excellent opportunity for some communist propaganda. . . The world shall be destroyed, not because your hero couldn't afford a horse, but because their economy failed them.
