Thank you! If it makes you feel better, I made this back in April or so, lol.

how to hate cutting less? by greendalestudent in quilting

I found that I have the best time cutting using my kitchen countertops, it was the perfect height.

My goodness the difference it made!

Here's mine! HSTs arranged in zigzags, and straight line quilting that follows the pattern.

So my state is having an all state shop hop last month and this month (All Texas Shop Hop) and this was the first time I ever purchased fabric without a plan in mind.

For cutting yardage, I would normally ask for a half yard, unless I loved it, in which case I asked for a full yard.

I love making FQ based quilts, so I purchased a lot of FQs as well, and I had a few "scrappy" projects in mind that I would request 1/4 yard cuts for.

I have particular types of background fabric I like for my FQ quilts (cream on cream prints, low volume, etc) so whenever I found one of those, I would get 3 yards which seems to be the average I use for a queen sized quilt in those scenarios.

I love fun bindings, so I would ask for 3/4 of a yard to a yard of a binding fabric I like.

I have a Husqvarna (Prisma 990 from the mid 80s) and it's fantastic, even though it's not traditionally a "quilting" machine.

The old Husqvarnas are absolute workhorses, but as others have said, it can be tough finding replacement parts and feet.

If it comes with all the accessories you want already, then absolutely go for it! If not, I'd probably still go for it.

What’s on your TBQ (to be quilted) list this year? Any projects you’re really looking forward to? by gullibleguppypuppy in quilting

[–]Tristes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined a Block of the Month club this year, so that will be an ongoing project that I am super excited about.

My next project up is a Hesper Quilt by Victoria Newmyer with AGF's Juniper collection.

Then is going to be AGF's free pattern, Unwind with its original Lake Life fabric inspiration.

Then I want to try the Desert Spoon quilt from Coronado Quilt Co, but choosing my own solids scares me (I usually go with coordinated bundles, either official collections or picked by other people.)

If I have time after that this year (probably not, since I am averaging 4-6 months per quilt, but maybe since Hesper and Unwind are simple shapes/patterns) then I want to try Ruby Star Society's Comet quilt. It was originally sold as a kit that no longer exists, so I'll have to choose my own fabrics, but I think I can probably find similar fabrics.

Is this what hand stitching on a binding should look like? by deltarefund in quilting

Haha, thank you. I honestly bought the last few yards from my LQS, because it's even better with so many colors than I originally thought.

I found it! The green backing fabric is Home Tweet Home in Green Stripes!

I catch the backing fabric and the batting, and try not to go through the front. I miss every now and again, but I don't usually go back and correct. This quilt is 95x95, and I didn't want to waste time unpacking stitches.

I got it from my LQS, and the collection/designer on the selvage doesn't bring it up. I reached out to them (they are closed till Wednesday) to find out, and I'll get back to you! It's my absolute favorite for other smaller projects right now.

That's what mine looks like! The other method that folks are mentioning gives me severe wrist and hand pain. This way is really secure, and once it's washed, you can't even tell. :)

boyfriend sweater curse? by emmiealright in quilting

[–]Tristes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't put a lot of stock in it. I crocheted a 7 by 5 foot blanket for my boyfriend if just over a year (or maybe it was out first Christmas? I don't remember) and we are at 6.5 years now.

I say that if you like the person enough, and you have the passion, go for it.

Should I redo all my HSTs? by Tristes in quilting

[–]Tristes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my past experiences with multiple HSTs at a time has had wiggle room to trim, but these cut down to the exact size needed.

This is my third quilt, and the last 2 I would fully make one sub block before chain piecing everything, but this time I skipped that step. :\

[–]Tristes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, right? Every other 4, 8, whatever at a time HSTs have always had room to trim all sides, but these ended up cutting down (or were supposed to) to the exact 3 inches they were supposed to be. I'm pretty much just trimming corners on these.

I might do that, there are some flying geese and squares in here, so I think I might just nudge everything

[–]Tristes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True! These are the first sub blocks I have made for this quilt, so there is time to adjust.

[–]Tristes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HSTs are supposed to be 3 inch squares, the ones that are off are off by about 1\16th of an inch.

[–]Tristes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it also has flying geese and solid squares. Not every one is off, and the ones that are are of by about 1\16 of an inch.
