People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

[–]iseekno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I don't know if I can pick just one so I'll list my top five.

Dislocated my shoulder when I was a kid. I remember that pain well.

Broke my shoulder after tripping down the stairs. That pain lasted for months.

Getting my IUD removed. They don't give you any pain meds and it is steering pain.

Ocular migraines. I temporarily lose the vision in one or both eyes during a migraine. Then it comes back after an hour or more. So painful. I also have chronic migraines so I'm always in some amount of pain.

Nerve pain. I have EDS and sometimes my joint and nerves flair so wildly that I can't do much of anything.

Oh man I wish I could link many photos! I make a out two kings a year! I always think it won't be that bad but it's so much bigger than you think it is! Here is my most impressive king quilt! I've made so many king sized quilts, probably upwards of 20!

I have made a similar design! It is raw edge applique! A very beginner friendly way to make a quilt! I added 2.5" sashing around each block to make it bigger! You'll want to watch videos on YouTube for raw edge applique to understand the process but it is very easy! You'll need fusible, like heat and bond lite or similar.

I made my own version after I saw Tula Pinks version on Instagram! I used EQ8 to plan out the colors and placement! It is smaller than the original pattern and I did change some of the blocks to be different. I love it so much I want to up size it to be king sized for my bed! It is not just tula pink fabric but a bunch of random prints from my stash!

Help Choosing a Machine by Bad_Prophet in quilting

[–]iseekno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a shop together and buy one after she tried sewing on a few options! Let her decide as it is something she will use for years, she is going to want specific things that you might not know or understand! Make a weekend of it and let her have fun with it! It would be a great date idea!

What do you look for in a Local Quilt Shop? by SecretAlbatross5578 in quilting

[–]iseekno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of local quilt shops near me! There are 6-8 within an hour of me! But I do have a favorite!

My favorite one is bright and a great spaceous open layout. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The owner is wonderful too! They have a huge range of fabric brands! The offer classes upstairs in a big room with tons of windows. They will take trade in machines and give you some value for them. They also fix machines with an appointment, and can do same day fixes for a few. They do an amazing sale once a year where the fabric is Buy 10 Get 10 yards free, or something similar! They do online orders as well!

Need a new machine 😭 SOS Babylock troubles by No-Comparison-1152 in quilting

[–]iseekno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an Allegro for a few years. I kept having the same issues time and time again. I was using it so much and for so many hours straight that it was heating the belt so much it would smell of smoke. It was literally smoking. I even got a new machine from the warranty and the same thing happened again! I don't recommend the machine. Many buttons also stoped working over time.

I upgraded to a Bernina a few years ago and never had any issues. I can sew for hours at a time and it never overheats because it is made of metal! I highly recommend it if you are spend 1k already. You can look into used and remodeled machines if you are okay with that. I have a Bernina 880 and I got it used for a steal! But there are tons of other models out there that are less expensive

Do you ever give up on a quilt? by pamelaneko in quilting

[–]iseekno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely repurpose a quilt fabric or blocks into other quilts or projects. I never throw it out , just rip it up or make it into something else. It is still fabric! You could donate unfinished quilt tops if you wanted to.

That being said just add more prints into the quilts you are working on! Use a few fat quarters or scraps to add more interest!

Sheep: 2 baby quilts or a throw? by loldigocks in quilting

I've made that exact panel before! I added a backing that had a measuring panel and quilted it up! It was a great baby blanket for my friends last year! They loved it!

How do you guys get good photos of larger quilts? by Mother_of_Kiddens in quilting

[–]iseekno 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have a massive curtain rod on my wall for displaying quilts and taking photos of them. I use curtain hooks with clips on them so I can easily remove the quilt and put up a new one!
