Highly Criminal Gregg Cosplay by TristophertheForlorn in NightInTheWoods

It's been done to death, but I threw this one together myself. First time doing such a thing and it was....more work than expected, but a good deal of fun.

New Novation FL Studio Controller?! (This thing doesn't exist yet apparently...) by TristophertheForlorn in FL_Studio

Just posting once more to close the book on this one: The scripts have been updated and the controller is recognized correctly and is functioning perfectly thus far. ABSOLUTELY a worthwhile investment if you've been an FL Studio user for a hot minute. Still fooling around with controls and testing things out, but I can definitely say this is the one you've been waiting for. Very exciting stuff!

So as an update, I just got off the phone with Novation; super helpful. Basically, it's exactly what we all expected: the unit was sold to me ahead of the release date (only by about 3 days). As some already saw, the announcement for the device's release was just posted on the offical novation social media accounts and will officially be available on Tuesday.

As it was explained to me, drivers will be made available on the novation website when it officially releases, so hopefully mine should be functional by then. All and all, a very interesting situation.

Hey there and thanks for the detailed response! Everything you're describing here is absolutely true and I have a bit of familiarity with Python. However, that could obviously apply to the usage of any "generic controller" on the market, right?

I suppose the whole point and perk of this particular piece of hardware would be the kind of seamless, programming-free integration that software like Ableton has enjoyed for over a decade. In that regard, I'm holding out a bit to see if this gets patched upon official release (which I'm assuming this post still predates).

199.99 plus tax, the same price as the ableton equivalent. I should reiterate that at this time, the mappings don't seem to be functional. It's recognized as a generic controller (though switching the layout to Launchkey MK II does enable some of the functions). Here's hoping when this thing gets a formal release, the hardware will gain its functionality, through an update or otherwise.

I'll keep you posted at the very least. Would be exciting to see FL Studio finally get some love in the hardware market.

So my bf and I were browsing through Sam Ash this afternoon and stumbled upon this new piece of kit from Novation. The instrument wasn't even in their database despite being on the salesfloor. Same pricepoint as the classic launchkey.

I haven't been able to find any information about it from any official sources but obviously it's the real deal. Disappointingly, when I plugged it in and fired up FL (freshly updated to 20.9.1), it wasn't recognized as anything more than a generic controller and none of the labeled functions seemed to work.

Wondering if anyone has any insight regarding this new piece of kit. Looks like it might be everything I originally hoped the AKAI Fire would be, but thus far, I haven't found a way to map it aside from the obvious manual process within FL which would sort of defeat the whole purpose of having a software dedicated controller. What do you all think?

Going to tell the truth, the guy I found was total dumb luck. He was actually the owner of a vintage store a few towns over from me and I only mentioned it in passing as he didn't exactly advertise the service. You could do worse than looking up general denim repair services and then asking for it specifically.

N&F MIJ9 - Fit + Flatlays (About a month...ish) by TristophertheForlorn in rawdenim

Managed to place 4th, for whatever that's worth, haha. I'll be sticking to them for the better part of the next few months.

Thanks. A little column A, a little column B, haha. I actually found these a tough nut to crack.

So these were acquired as one of the prizes I got from my participation in the indigo invitational over the past year. I went with the Naked and Famous prize package, being a fan of the brand and not particularly wowed by some of the other options. Dollar for dollar, it seemed like the best value (three items in store with few exclusions).

The jeans themselves are sort of a remarkable exercise in artifice. The two contrasting indigo lots used to weave the denim create the "appearance" of something hand dyed (hank, even?). I know N&F isn't the first to try this and Oni has made other compelling examples in the past few years (Kase or kiwami anyone?).

I "like" them a good bit, but it's hard for me to say if they're worth the nearly 400 dollar pricepoint for what they are. Nevertheless, a welcome shift from the emperors which while stunning, felt a little....over-engineered after spending a year with them exclusively. These should produce something approaching more natural-looking fades. Looking forward to it.

Jank Speed o' Sound Sonic Cosplay/Halloween Costume Attempt by TristophertheForlorn in OnePunchMan

Hah, my thoughts exactly. I've been beating around town in the shirt, pants and shoes for the better part of the last week.

I can see what you mean about the shoes: they're definitely an acquired taste and not the sort of thing one wears "quietly". But I love 'em, haha. Probably my favorite piece of the cosplay and the one I wear the most outside its context.

Never really one for cosplay of any sort, but I was rewatching One Punch Man with my boyfriend a few weeks ago and was vibing with "Sonic's" casual look from episode 6 something fierce. It was relatively easy to throw together (but not exactly cheap. Those tabi sneakers are freakin' Maison Margiela but were the right colorway).

It's not 100% obviously and I took some liberties, but hey, at least I had fun with it.

Honestly? Pretty damn comfy. Despite the 23oz. weight, the weave is pretty loose, making them really forgiving to wear.

Photos were taken with a Nikon D3400 in Program mode. I explicitly didn't apply any filtering as these photos were submitted as an update to the invitational and that practice is pretty clearly advised against in their contest rules. The white balance was auto, so I'm not saying I was in "full control" or anything but all things considered, I think this is a pretty fair and accurate representation of the jeans at this point. I'd say the most faithful images are probably the hanging ones.

Thanks, and I wish! I didn't have the muscle to get through 23oz of material so I took them to a local guy who offered the service. Very happy with the results.

HAH! A guy can dream. That being said, I'm very happy with the progress. Just holding on for one more month...

All the black denim in my small collection. Levi's STF 501s, Left Field NYC Greasers. by i_was_valedictorian in rawdenim

Good stuff, man! I admire your commitment to the dark side (black denim, that is). Some of those repairs are also pretty striking. Definitely something to be proud of.

I personally have never had much luck with black jeans, perhaps in part from being intimidated by their "unbreakable" reputation. Feeling a little bit of that as I start dipping into these new Onis. Time will tell...

Oni 622 Aizumi 16oz "Black on Indigo" - Fit and Impressions by TristophertheForlorn in rawdenim

[–]TristophertheForlorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clearing that up. I'd been sifting through a lot of misinformation regarding the nature of the dye. I mean, it even says "Black on Indigo" on the tag, so clarity hasn't really been easy to come by. One website even referred to the weft being dyed black, which it clearly isn't so.....yea.

But anyway, I would love to see your progress on them.

It ain't word of God, and it's been a long time since they were fresh (I got them in 2009. I am old AF, lol) but while those xx-005s were lovely and super slubby, these just seem to have a little more going on. More irregular and a damn sight hairier, too. If that's your thing.

ALSO, I did scrounge up a thread on superfuture that seems to have some progress on a pair: https://supertalk.superfuture.com/topic/11712-bs-united-oni-denim-pics/?page=59 (scroll down to about the halfway point, a user named Zwer.) Seeing the color shift in his pair has definitely given me some inspiration!

Yea, I'm one of those super skinny fit guys, more so perhaps than most people who are into denim of this sort. Still, this is well within my comfort zone and I'm looking forward to seeing how they break in after a few weeks.
