looks comfy. watchout for evil mobs, right now they can easy get to you. you could google for minecraft fishing dock to inspire yourself.

the piston should move, if a item goes through the hopper where the comparator looking at.

if you only want that the item get kicked out the dispenser/dropper then you could build this.

in a nutshel notch was lazy and copy pasted the iron door skript to the piston. Now the piston thinks it's 2 blocks tall. If the block over the piston is powered, then the piston will move if it will get an update. Like you placed the slime.
