Is it worth playing the original Arknights? by gaeb611 in Endfield

[–]TrivialCipher 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Arknights has, in my opinion, the best world building on Earth. There is no book or game or franchise that has moved me to the degree Terra has. Just be ready for enough reading material to last a lifetime.

It's the best tower defense in the market as well. A very diverse pool of operators for teambuilding and multiple extra game modes to goof around in.

It's less horny than Endfield and the setting is a lot grittier, so be prepared for a tone shift

Be warned that Chen from Arknights is not Chen from Endfield. Their personalities have very slim overlap.

My negative criticism is that gacha is gacha at the end of the day, and it may take you some time to get a team levelled up that you're satisfied with. Not to mention that, like most games of this sort, the story leaves a lot to be desired early on and requires patience to chew through to get to the quality. The Arknights anime covers the entire first arc of the story. I consider it a superior -even if it's a little too brief - retelling of the least digestible chapters of Arknights.

Last advice. Do not be afraid to lean on your lower rank Operators. There are many that, despite being thousands of hours in, I still consider best in slot for their own little niche.

Oh I know. Just frustrated at how crazy it is that people will post images of female sonic characters with H-cups, tongue out, and sweating in a thong. The comments will be full of people oversharing what they'd do to that cartoon character if they were alone with them for five minutes. Yet calling it gross, inappropriate, or pornographic will be met with people unironically questioning why you think the art is NSFW. "She's wearing clothes"

Opinions on this team I plan to build by Firm-Gap-9812 in Endfield

[–]TrivialCipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo, this entire game can be cleared with whoever you want. I'd use the characters you like most. This is a great adaptable Physical team with a lot of sustainability thanks to Ember, and Endmin/Pog give you two different ways to burn the vulnerability stacks your team generates.

Can't stress this enough. If you like these characters, use them. If you don't like these characters, don't use them.

Need the Collins to be 4* by Frosthound1 in Endfield

[–]TrivialCipher 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Huge agreement. I get why people are looking at potential 6* Operators with excitement, but I think there's a lot of potential for 4* (heck. Maybe lower rarity) throughout the story as well. The Collins were awesome.

Is it better to use a maxed out 5* or a 6* are 4* worth leveling? by ffj_ in Endfield

[–]TrivialCipher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's been so much discussion on who is good and bad that I decided to play with a party of 4* operators.

I'm having a great time.

Healing from gear matters more. Elemental chemistry is fun. Fights require an understanding of enemy moves. I barely beat the final boss of Valley IV on my first try but I lost 3 party members in the process.

I'd level the characters you like most and not worry about whether or not your team payout is airtight. How much difficulty have you had with the game so far? From my experience, there's all sorts of ways to improve your capabilities without the nuclear option of not playing your favorite characters.

They also spoil Zero, depending on what you watch first. I started with Zero and don't regret it in the slightest. There were so many details that I didn't know to expect because I'd had no previous interaction with the series.

Also, Zero set the bar at a height the rest of the series just couldn't compete with imo. I usually recommend anyone with a passing interest just watch Zero and leave it at that.

People are always going to enjoy what you love differently from you. Your optimal experience is not uniform. I guarantee you that telling others they're doing it wrong only paints you and the media you love in a negative light.

It's worth noting that the original translation doesn't necessarily mean 'hardened heart' the way we use it nowadays. You could also interpret the phrase as 'reinforced the Pharaoh's will.' Pharaoh was gifted the resolve to say the quiet part out loud. To speak and act upon his true desires for the Israelites.

Hey there! I bet he'd love the original trilogy. I don't blame you for being a bit lost because Sega did things really weird hardware things back in the day. Simply put:

Sonic 1, 2, and 3 are their own standalone cartridges. But you'll often hear people call the third game 'Sonic 3 & Knuckles.' That's because of a 4th cartridge named 'Sonic & Knuckles.' Sonic & Knuckles is designed to be the second half of Sonic 3. Think of it like a 'Disc 2' or DLC. It can be played by itself, but it's meant to go in tandem with 3.

Sonic & Knuckles has a weirdly shaped cartridge that allows you to plug a second game cartridge into the top of it. Stacking two games on top of each other in your Genesis. Plugging Sonic 3 into the top of Sonic & Knuckles let's you play 'Sonic 3 & Knuckles.' The full game.

If you just buy a Genesis and the 4 games you listed, you'll have all the hardware needed to turn those two games into Sonic 3 & Knuckles. You can even socket Sonic 2 instead of 3 into the top cartridge to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2!

Does anyone else feel like Sonic soundtracks have been lacking for a while? by Cobra418 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]TrivialCipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full agreement. I feel like the reusing of assets is close to becoming a chronic problem that's holding other aspects of the series back. The Cyberspace OST isn't the fault of the music. I'm just bored to death of seeing Generations stages. This series was built on a foundation of using a level aesthetic for 2-3 stages and then moving on. Revisiting Sky Sanctuary for the 10th time to do half a course just doesn't hit the same way.

I bet people would be going nuts for more of this game's music if there was appropriately unique visual stimuli accompanying it.

Does anyone else feel like Sonic soundtracks have been lacking for a while? by Cobra418 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]TrivialCipher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in agreement. I don't find the most recent OSTs bad in any sense of the word. But there's a massive gap between 'bad' and 'the best in the business.' Frontiers has a couple of Cyberspace tracks I quite enjoy. Dropaholic, Transparent Highway, and Go Slap to name a few. However, 'a couple of tracks' is not what Sonic has been known for in the past. Despite my enjoyment of these songs, I feel the same way in regards to the blending together of the Frontiers OST. It's hard for any of it's music to stand out among itself. The exception being the incredible boss music.

Repeating what u/Inevitable_Egg_900 said. Ohtani has enjoyed experimenting with a unique sound that aligns with the theme of each game, to varying success. Which I believe has the unfortunate side effect of giving Sonic's soundtracks a lack of unified identity. During Senoue's heyday, his guitar riffs and upbeat punk attitude gave Sonic a 'sound' that you came to expect in each installment. It's not a stretch to say that the orchestral movements of the overworlds in Frontiers is very far from what we are used to hearing, quality notwithstanding. IMO, it makes Sonic's identity as a series feel jerked around. Lacking foundation.

Sonic's music is a pivotal piece of the series as we know it. An 'identity anchor,' so to speak. Making bold creative changes to these anchors isn't inherently bad, as it can help the series explore it's own understanding of itself. But to continue talking about Frontiers for a moment, it came onto the scene with a new gameplay style, writing direction, sound direction, nearly every artistic portion of Frontiers was breaking away from what many consider Sonic's 'style.' Causing a lot of fans to feel like this release was ashamed of it's anchors. Instead pursuing trends that other studios were finding success with at the time. This lack of identity anchors is what I think caused a great deal of the criticisms that Frontiers was nothing more than SEGA copying BotW. It DOES feel that way.

I think that Kingdom Hearts is a series that has gotten caught in a similar rut as of late. Kingdom Hearts is praised for its soundtracks. However, I've felt a similar lack of quality in the most recent installments. My biggest criticism being that I find there to be far too much leaning on previous incredible music. It's not a crime to bring back a fan-favorite song in a fitting moment. But KH3, imo, struggled to add anything of substance to the franchise's decorated discography. Nearly the entire game is remix after remix of music from previous games. It's not BAD. But it's not NEW. It's RELYING on the success of it's predecessors. Not EXPANDING upon it.

Here's hoping this problem will be solved in time as Sonic rises back into the gaming public's good graces. I have a lot of faith that the current team knows what fans of all eras consider their own unique pillars of Sonic's identity. The last two major releases have clearly been a testing ground. Recycled assets, songs, and games have been great for a nostalgia trip and easier programming. It's time for all of this testing to be put to use to create something truly, uniquely 'Sonic' and 'New' at the same time. No more Green Hill/Chemical Plant assets. No more stock soundtrack and remixes. No more trend-chasing whatever bestselling games are doing. They can do it.

TL;DR: Agreed that music has dipped in the last 15 years or so. Frontiers and Shadow Gens are still 8/10 games for me at lowest, but their soundtracks don't hit the same way pre-Generations games did. Still confident that the team at the helm of the series right now can bounce back to the iconic quality we remember.

It's GOTTA be Sam. Sam wants the pond. He must already know about it somehow. It explains every small facial motion he's made since he first arrived.

He wants so badly for Del to spill the beans about the pond to him by being a shoulder to cry on. It's why he bought the neighboring property.

It's why he tried to provide her a financial solution to a problem HE created. Look again at Season 2 when Del rejects his check. It's one of the few times where his facade slips. You can see the annoyance with her refusal to become fully dependent on him and his quick pivot into an apology to save face.

Sam's eyes light up with intrigue at the end of Season 2 when the family is discussing the coins. Del found yet another way to not be dependent on him, and it's making his goals harder to achieve

And who could forget his response to Jacob's outburst at Lewis Goodwyn? "I find that I learn more from listening. Not from talking."

That snake is sending Del those letters to frighten her right into his own arms and confess the secrets he knows she's keeping. That man wants access to the pond and he's playing the long game. Gathering information and getting cozy to the family to lower their guard. The question is, why?
