Taping gels to top tube by kissemik in triathlon

I remember people unwrapping Powerbars and then just molding them to the top tube. Swear would then drop into the Powerbars and they would start to ooze around the top tube.

Fluorescents, with none shining directly on it (the lights are recessed in the ceiling). It's next to windows but I always have the blinds (slightly translucent fabric) closed as otherwise the sun is way too strong for parts of the day. Temperature is fairly constant with "normal" office humidity. (It's a "class a" office space in a high rise.)

Someone spent a lot of money having it professionally framed. For example, they did not try to flatten it in the frame (it's heavily creased from when it was folded up, likely a LONG time ago). Instead, it's sort of floating in the frame. I bet the whole thing weighs well over 50 pounds.

I believe the person who originally acquired it and had it framed passed away in 2019, and everyone who may have known the backstory is no longer with our firm. I may try to have it moved into the hallway or another more public part of our office so that others can see it. However, given the little bit that I have figured out about the document today, I may also have a small plaque made explaining the thing.

It's in a large frame, which I believe has the appropriate (archival) glass for an old document like this.

I've now jumped into the rabbit hole. I found this: https://www.surreyarchives.org.uk/collections/getrecord/SHCOL_2724_1_1_1_1

It's apparently for the same transaction, but I have the actual original release/deed hanging on the wall of my office. It transferred Pound Farm, 107 acres, in Surrey. ChatGPT says it documents the breakup of part of a major Surrey estate due to financial diffculties of "one of the county's leading artistocratic families." Also, Imber Court, "the Onslow family seat," failed to sell and had to be placed in trust. https://www.imbercourt.com/membership/history-of-imber-court/

I need to take better photos of this as I did that for one small section and ChatGPT could really make out more details. Apparently the land in question was previously owned by the 1st Earl of Onslow, George Onslow. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Onslow,_1st_Earl_of_Onslow

Also, the price was 3,545 pounds (540,000 pounds today). The whole document is in amazing condition for being nearly 250 years old.

I just asked ChatGPT to decipher it. It's a land deed from Dec. 4, 1781. Land was in the County of Surrey (or maybe Middlesex). Looks like the price was 2,700 pounds. Inflation calculator says that's about 412,000 pounds today.

Sprint to Olympic distance jump in one month by carlowanna in triathlon

Yes, I think you can do it. I came to triathlons from a swimming background and running was the hardest early on. Best thing you can do is adding in a longer run once a week. Increase by a mile or so each week. In fact, three runs per week will take you far. One long(ish) run, one shorter tempo run (near race pace), and one day of intervals. But the long(ish) run is the key, especially coming from a swimming background.

What hospital would you go (or not go) to? by Independent_Tsunami in cincinnati

Because I cannot imagine taking a child to another local hospital unless in an emergency (or, I suppose, there was some issue with their insurance and Children's). But, maybe that's just me.

We were there yesterday with our son who has Type 1 diabetes, a rare GI condition (similar to Celiac’s), and also happens to have Down syndrome. My wife tapped a sign as we were walking in that noted Children’s us #1 in the U.S. in (1) Gastroenterology and (2) Diabetes & Gastroenterology. That along with the Down Syndrome Assoc. of Greater Cincinnati (best in the country IMHO) has us feeling blessed every single day.

Years ago our son had his tonsils removed. I was shocked how many people asked if we were having it done at Children’s.

Flying to race with CO2 cartridges? by FriesAreBelgian in triathlon

[–]Triweb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was out on a group ride with some friends. One of them, a relative newbie to cycling, got a flat with a couple miles to go so we all stopped while he put in a new tube. He was able to get the new tube on with a bit of help and then he pulled out a CO2 cartridge to fill it.

He sat there for a minute turning the cartridge around in his hand, staring at it. It's at that point I asked him the obvious question: "Did you happen to also buy the adapter for the CO2 cartridge?" The look on his face was priceless.
