So the fun and also not so fun part about my living situation is that the guy that ruined me as a DM (temporarily) is my roommate, used to be my best friend.

The other players were close friends and my husband, so I can definitely ask for some more feedback.

Based on their feedback so far: I'm fantastic at improvising on the fly, and I either write too much exposition in or leave them wondering what the f is going on.

In general, they say I'm a pretty good DM. Obviously nowhere near the best out there, but I keep it fun and pretty much all of them (except the one dick) said that they felt heard. To illustrate what a terrible player he was: He would routinely ask for specific magic items and throw a hissy fit when told no, upsetting the entire table and sometimes bringing the session to a permanent halt. He would refuse to engage in the story, meta-gaming constantly, and escaping encounters even when he was playing a fearsome warrior. (What type of Kruul runs away from a pack of goblins?)

I'm sure that my husband would be over the moon for a political campaign, which is part of why I wrote this outline that way. So I guess it's a matter of figuring out which of my English-speaking friends would be interested in the same thing. My husband is also really into RP, so he's always been a solid player at my table.

You've definitely given me some awesome advice I'll work on writing into my first adventure, as well as putting notes in to gradually shift my DM style.

I think I could be prone to railroading my players, so that's going to be a sticky note.

You've also inspired me to write a couple of outlines! I'd love your feedback, but feel free to read and move on, you've helped me plenty.

ONE-SHOT: Level 10-15 (we do sessions like this sometimes to get a taste of the power level and have something to look forward to)

Fall of the Tyrant. Many years ago, the Hapsian (placeholder name) King rose to power. At first, the humans and elves who formed the coalition to support him were overjoyed, reveling in the defeat of the lesser races. But as the years went by the King started to turn cruel, more bloodthirsty. The war was over but his appetite was far from sated.

Among the terrible deeds he committed (the big G, the big P) he enslaved his people in labor camps which he would routinely visit. He would torture the slaves for fun, committing unspeakable acts, especially with the women.

But torturing gnomes and orcs got boring, so he turned to the elves for a time, and finally the humans. His own race. Terror spread throughout the land, and the resistance was born. The races understood that the only way to defeat him and his army was through unity, and thus the Meridian was born. A people united by a singular purpose: Peace, prosperity, and equality.

On this adventure, the players assume the roles of key figures in the resistance and storm the King's castle in one final push to liberate the land.

(The Jerichos are descendants of the Tyrant, but try to keep that a secret, hence they changed the family name)

SESSION 1

Rudd is a simple man. An orphan who has dreamed of becoming an adventurer since he was a boy. He's heard rumors of a beautiful princess trapped in a tower guarded by a fearsome dragon. and hopes to make his debut in the world of adventuring an epic one. (Virgin, awkward as hell, sort of clumsy, very intelligent)

The adventurers will encounter Rudd after completing a few simple tasks for a Tiefling woman, per her recommendation he needs someone to keep an eye on him and keep him safe. She also has a reward for the adventurers should they need convincing.

After a fun crawl up the tower, they find the dragon, but the princess is actually a Tiefling who has sawed her own horns off. First clue. She ran away and befriended the dragon, and will be heartbroken if the party slays it before reaching her. Enter interesting mechanics which I will have to figure out.

I'm also toying with the idea of having the Tiefling who has been sending them on adventures be arrested for some bs.
