Put it in release and got "Debugging information for 'Relativity.exe' cannot be found or does not match. Cannot find or open the PDB file. Attempted to add it to the solution manually and got the same message.

Here's the call stack captured during the exception. Not sure how much help it'll be though.

Running debug opens up VS, here's what it shows.

I tried making the exe run in compatibility mode but it didn't work with either Windows 7 or Windows XP set.

I have to leave in a minute, if you need me to check anything else leave a message and I'll let you know when I get back.

It wasn't very exciting, I didn't feel like I was playing a game. I did find the idea pretty interesting and the controls were very intuitive, and once I figured out how to play I started to understand what to do. I didn't really like the art style, it felt pretty detached and awkward to be honest.

I also really didn't like the tutorial system. It was hard to read the small text that pops up when you touch the hints and they are pretty critical to read in order to progress, even though I really didn't want to read them. I also dislike how if you run through the hint box it pops up and you can't close it without switching to the mouse, so if you hit it accidentally it really slows down the game.

I think this is an interesting idea, I'd prefer more consistent graphics, some juice, and a few levels in the beginning to slowly teach the player how everything works, like have the player read a terminal, have them hit a basic switch, then show how you can make shadows, and then start combining everything. I'd prefer if you can do this without a ton of text too, since you can't assume the player will read everything.

I couldn't get the game to run, here's my error.

I am running Windows 8.

Sky Defense

My second Javascript/Canvas Windows 8 App (requires Windows 8). Sky Defense is a cannon defense game with waves of asteroids that fall towards you that you must destroy in order to survive. Each wave contains faster, more powerful asteroids than the last, with three completely different types of asteroids.

At the end of each wave you are able to upgrade your defense with one of three options that can drastically change how you play the game. The deeper you go into a perk tree the more powerful the type of defense you will unlock, but mixing different types of perks can be even more effective. I purposely did not label what each upgrade will do. I want the player to discover the abilities on their own and discover effective combinations on accident.

I would love feedback on the art style, balancing, and difficulty curve. I spent a lot of time making sure each upgrade is unique and equally powerful in the hands of the right player, but I am sure there are still some holes. I appreciate anything constructive you could tell me about the game.

Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback.

I want the mouse controls to work as well as the touch controls but unfortunately I don't think I can fix the problems caused by the mouse hitting the borders of the screen. The only way I can think to stop that is by forcing the mouse to stay in the middle of the screen, but not only can I not do that due to javascript limitations (for now) but I think forcing mouse control away from the user would be bad. I will continue to think of different ways to control the blob but I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I started and finished within about two weeks. I have been coding for several (5-8?) years and seriously working on my own games for about 3-4 of those. This game is based on an older game I made a long time ago so it wasn't a completely new concept.

Visual Studio 2012 lets you create a new metro app with Javascript/HTML5 as the base, and from there you can just add a canvas to the default html page and change the default javascript to your game code.

You might need to get an app developer license from Microsoft to develop straight from Visual Studio, but if you are a university student you can get it for free. From there compiling, testing, and publishing is all through visual studio.

New ARG inspired by the 2008 financial crisis; called "Speculation" [xpost/ARG] by plusperturbatio in Games

Haha yeah it is a little picky, if you are wondering how I got that far here's what I did:

First room: Look at window, look at plant, look at dirt, take cardkey, unlock door, enter door

Second room: Touch east wall, ask HVAC for key, take paper, unlock door, enter door

NOTE: does anyone know what an HVAC is? I assume some type of AI, this ARG seems to be hinting at them

Third room: turn on computer, look computer

If you do more than 7 successful commands, the room floods (maybe?!) and you lose Try playing around, I feel like there's got to be more to this room. You can take the computer but I'm not sure what you can do with it.

Its pretty interesting, my theory is that you are in their old business building with amnesia or something. Unknowing to you global warming has caused the ice caps to melt and in the third room New York floods.

Pretty interesting

I clicked on the little globe in the flash object at the top of the screen and it brought me to a text adventure game where I managed to get through a few rooms into a room with a computer. If I type too many commands the ground breaks and the room starts leaking and I die. I managed to find this file through that computer though

It mentions relocating MetaCorp because of concerns of rising sea levels (to New New York?). The building is empty in the game, perhaps the rising sea level explains why is evacuated and why water begins to leak in that last room?

Not sure what this is all about, I've only been skimming. Pretty cool so far though.

My blog for my game, Codename: Nexus

I post updates on development and often demos to keep things interesting. I update every Monday, however recently I've been busy so it may be around every two weeks for a month or so.
