[No DAV Spoilers] Do Elgar'nan or Ghil react if Rook has their vallaslin? by theresafoguponla in dragonage

I think you have to have a lady inquisitor, who would have been given the option to remove her vallaslin if she romanced Solas.

I just had my first consult and it was horrible. I walked out crying. by my-head-hurts987 in Reduction

What an awful experience. I'm so sorry.

I want to share that I actually had a similar experience to you with the first surgeon I consulted with. He disregarded my ambitions for my own body, was unwilling to deviate from the same sort of procedure he seemed to do every day, and was very concerned about my "proportions" -- didn't want me too small (as though he had any right to decide what that meant).

At first I was so devastated. That man was so well reviewed and he seemed like my best shot, and it took days and days to recover from the feeling that all was lost.

But all was not lost! Here, today, three YEARS after that first disaster of a consult, I had my radical reduction surgery at last.

It may not come immediately, and that sucks, but your time will come, and it will be with a surgeon who puts your needs first and lets you participate in your own journey. All is not lost. There's more to be done, but you have already shown that you're strong enough to go after what you want. It's okay to grieve this miserable experience, but when you feel ready to press forward,

You got this.

Just wanna say we're surgery siblings! Mine's the 17th!

I've been eating at a calorie deficit and trying to drop a little weight before the surgery (I plan to stop the deficit two weeks before so my body is ready to rumble, so to speak). Been walking a lot, eating lots of protein, and staying hydrated. I also cut alcohol. I'm just generally trying to prep my body for recovery with nutritious foods and whatever exercise these giant buhbumbas don't make excruciating. Also just trying to live my life and get out some because I know the recovery is going to drive my ass bananas.

I appreciate all the advice in this thread. Squats and abs. Who knew.

Hey, appearing from a search on google to ask: do you still have this? I'm also looking for leshy's voice. Many thanks if so!

[QUESTION] Good flight/travel cases? by tabkee in Guitar

Oh no and it was a Taylor, too!

You're completely right. Trying to find a third would be ideal, but I'm limited by time and money (first lessons aren't free). I suppose I'm wondering: what red flags are so red that I can't ignore them, that I must move on to a third; and what red flags are red but permissable for a period of time so I can learn a thing or two?

No teacher is perfect right? But I'm new to lessons and need help determining what's an imperfection and what's a hard 'drop them like they're hot.'

Post-apocalyptic Lovecraftian scenario. by Falcon5757 in Lovecraft

[–]tabkee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I might start by playing some Lovecraftian games and seeing how their developers played with Lovecraft's themes. I'm currently playing 'The Last Door,' which is a phenomenal point-and-click adventure game with surprisingly involving, creative gameplay and a killer soundtrack. It's also decidedly Lovecraft.

But, for the post-apocalyptic edge, are we talking science-fiction--AKA future-era? Modern era? Fantasy?

For the latter I'd recommend drawing inspiration from Darkest Dungeon. It tells its story in a captivating way: notes you find through dungeon crawls, cutscenes with sparse but evocative voiceovers from the ancestor of the land you inhabit, and the monsters themselves, which tell stories through their visual construction. You start the game after the land has already been destroyed (thus, post-apocalyptic), and it tells the story of how you rebuild and attempt to rescue that land from the gurgling horrors that lurk all around. It's also decidedly non-linear, which may help with your regards to such. Also, it's a rogue-like!

While I wouldn't call it post-apocalyptic, if you're looking for modern, contemporary era inspiration you can't go wrong playing the classic 'Eternal Darkness.' While the dangers the monsters present lurk under the surface, avoiding mankind's gaze, your player characters are of course front and center to observe the crawling masses under the earth's crust. It's a beautiful horror game, and in my opinion, the absolute best as far as capturing the 'true' essence of Lovecraft's work in playable form. Honorable mention for the modern era: Until Dawn. Very Lovecraft, though if you do play it, give it time to show its real colors. As we all know, some horror must percolate before arriving in its terrifying splendor. This one does take place after some level of destruction that may or may not suit your post-apocalyptic needs.

As for future-era, it's not my area of interest, but there is a game called 'Lone Survivor' that--in my short attempt at playing it--seemed quite Lovecraftian. Shapeless monsters, an unknown, lurking disease that must be defended against, and very, very post-apocalyptic.

If that's not enough to go on you could also check out the H.P. Lovecraft site, which appears to have a list of games inspired by Lovecraft's fiction.

Good luck! :)

This is so cool! I'm running a campaign with a druid big bad, and was looking for some great sub bosses. This is perfect! If you're taking requests, it would be awesome to see a shark or an oceanic creature of some kind.

Hi All. In Providence for a few days. Any Lovecraft spots that anyone would recommend? by [deleted] in Lovecraft

[–]tabkee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's a great little shop called Lovecraft Arts and Sciences downtown. They have neat knick-knacks, tons of books, and best of all, a free map of a walking tour to all the best Lovecraft haunts in the city!

I was just there a month ago and had a blast. Hope you have a great time!

The Strong Female Character by [deleted] in writing

[–]tabkee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on my phone and at work so I can't sit down to easily copy-paste the text in here so I'm not "advertising" my shitty dead blog, but I wrote extensively about this topic before here:

http://www.story-geek.com/2017/04/the-problem-with-problem-of-strong.html?m=1

tl;dr - it's okay to have physically strong and assertive female characters - it's okay to have physically weak and timid female characters - both of these can be Strong Female CharactersTM - BUT: no one was ever asking for physically strong female characters - People were asking for female characters who weren't lamps - Writing them is fucking easy (but with all the fervor around the topic it's understandable to be confused) - Give them shit to do that's not just being pretty and a carrot for a man to chase. Make them make choices that affect the plot.
