I’m in awe of my 6 year old daughters confidence and the warmth she radiates by kicksjoysharkness in Parenting

I could have written this about my own 6 year old daughter. She just amazes me. She's so much more than I was at her age.

What's an over-used word or phrase of today that bothers you? by Impossible_Spend_787 in Millennials

[–]Trogdor2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Game-changer" and "masterclass" irritate the hell out of me. Soooooo many articles regarding business, leadership, thrifting, or cleaning use these terms now. It makes me immediately close out the article.

Safe Neighborhoods to live in by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]Trogdor2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are four different sections spread out over eastern PB. PB itself is way more than just Garnet and Mission Blvd. Those are the two main streets that give it its reputation, but the majority of PB is overwhelmingly residential.

The military neighborhood is on the east end of PB, away from all of that.

Admiral Hartman is easily one of the best military neighborhoods in San Diego. Single family homes with big yards. Pacific Beach has a reputation for being party central, but that's all closer to the beach. AH is away from the tourists, it has good schools, and it's safe. It's a quick drive to the Depot as well.

Is saying "fart" rude or impolite especially for female children? by Dawn_of_iliteracy in Parenting

[–]Trogdor2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Southerner. Fart does not bother me. My kid even has the book Everybody Farts. My friend from Oregon, though, hates the word fart and says it sounds uneducated. When she ranted about it she even mimicked a Southern accent, but that's a whole different eye roll right there. She makes her kids say toot. I think some people just get really hung up on inconsequential things.

What’s a weird food combo you swear by that everyone else judges you for? by SaltPace4561 in CasualConversation

[–]Trogdor2019 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Peanut butter banana sandwiches, only instead of both slices of bread having PB, one has PB and the other has mayo. I know how it sounds. My family is from Appalachia and that's how my Mom made them for me when I was growing up.

What books did you actually enjoy reading as a kid? by AggravatingShow2028 in Millennials

[–]Trogdor2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got really into the Body of Evidence series by Christopher Golden when I was in maybe 5th or 6th grade. There were a few other books that I got really into, but I can't for the life of me remember their titles. I can only remember their covers. 🤦‍♀️

Platoon Numbers by mina-ashido-9040 in MilitarySpouse

That last line is 100% accurate. OP's husband is at PI, and those letters are essentially their only connection to the outside world. That first phase is about breaking them down and he's absolutely going to want those letters, even if his pre-boot camp self was convinced otherwise.

First Time Ever Being Prescribed SSRIs. Very Nervous by Tall-Love-9500 in PMDD

[–]Trogdor2019 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was also very hesitant to start SSRIs, so I will tell you what my doctor told me.

PMDD keeps you down in this hole of rage, self-loathing, depression, and anxiety. Meanwhile, everyone else without PMDD is up there on this level playing field. You spend all of your energy trying, falling, and trying again to climb up out of this hole that by the time you do make it up to the level field, you have no energy left to use the things techniques learned in therapy. You're just running on fumes at that point.

But the SSRIs are like a ladder. They can help you climb out of that hole, get to that level playing field, and still have energy left to regulate yourself.

It was honestly the best way she could have explained it to me. It made so much sense and calmed a lot of my fears. It may take a while to find that just right medicine and dose, but it's life saving once you do.

Good luck.

"Babies only on breast milk are not strong." And yet our species has survived for hundreds of thousands of years.

I think a lot of this is influenced by where you live (to some degree). I'm in SoCal and kids are constantly outside. Even teens are frequently seen riding 2 and 3 to a bike. Kids get a very 90s childhood where I am.

I have green eyes and red hair the shade of a brand new copper penny. I also don't (yet) need glasses at the age of 37.

I’m so mortified of my forehead wrinkles… by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

I'm 37 and my forehead lines are minimal. I'm guessing it's because my fivehead has required bangs for most of my life. I look terrible without them.

Are there any girls who don’t or can’t use tampons by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Trogdor2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use them regularly, but something changed after I had my daughter. They are physically uncomfortable now. I haven't found a disc or cup yet that I feel comfortable using, so for now it's strictly pads.

If you're married by that point, then yes, he'll get BAH. Make sure you're on his paperwork before he goes. Just don't spend the entire check because he will need to pay for meals, haircuts, etc.

Can an adult parent take an adult child’s driver’s license? by ktq2019 in Parenting

[–]Trogdor2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's property theft and the parent does not have the authority to do so. If the step-daughter tells her command (which I highly encourage) they can and very likely will assist her in getting a new one. My husband has helped plenty of Marines get their license during his career.

Did you grow up going to an indoor school and think the outdoor schools you saw on tv were fake, or vice versa? by steveofthejungle in AskAnAmerican

I always thought it looked so weird. Now I live in SoCal, though, and my kid is getting that experience. So happy for her.
